DESCRIPTION:
We all know it’s POSSIBLE to use technology to manage assessments – students submit reflections or recordings, teachers give feedback, etc. but here’s a chance to ACTUALLY DO that. Bring a laptop or tablet. Hands-on the whole day! There is no cost for this workshop, and 4 CEU hours are entered. A lunch break of 45 min is planned. Feel free to bring your own lunch and eat on site. This workshop is facilitated by Wendy Barden, Music Education Specialist and Toni Beckler, Training & Development Specialist – Professional Development and Resource Programs at Perpich Center for Arts Education.

DESCRIPTION:
Presented by Perpich Center for Arts Education and Hennepin Theatre Trust.

Join K-12 theater directors and educators for an intensive workshop day. Topics will include: experiential learning about performance techniques, hands-on training in various aspects of production, opportunities to hone your curriculum and learn about pathways to theater education licensure, dialogues to spark your thinking about theater performance. We will also provide open-space opportunities to connect with peers in the field as well as theater service and network organizations.

*This year’s conference will focus on adult educators, and will not include a student track. We are taking time to evaluate this portion of the event, and will keep you informed about future offerings.

PRESENTER:
John Crever is a Feierabend Association for Music Education (FAME) endorsed teacher trainer fro Conversational Solfege and First Steps in Music. He comes to us from Portland, Oregon. In addition to his own classroom work, Crever has led workshops for teachers across the country, sharing Feierabend’s Kodály inspired approach, and quality resources, for an ear-first, conversational strategy to gain comprehensive music literacy for all.

Jody Petter is K-5 music educator in the Bloomington Public Schools. She has her Master’s degree in Orff Schulwerk from the University of St. Thomas. She has also completed Level I, II, III, and the International Summer Course at the Orff Insitut. Petter has presented at local, state, and regional workshops, and is the author of the blog Random Acts of Orff.

PRESENTER:
Becca Buck is K-5 music educator in the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage school district. She completed both her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of St. Thomas and completed her Kodály levels there in 2015. Her Master’s work was in creating a culturally relevant Kodály-inspired classroom. Most recently, Buck presented a session at MMEA Midwinter Clinic, “Salam Alaikum! A Culturally Relevant Kodály-Inspired Classroom with Emphasis on Somali Culture.” She also serves as the current treasurer for the Kodály Chapter of Minnesota.

PRESENTER:
Kathy Thomsen is Professor of Music at Hamline University in St. Paul, and serves on the summer faculty at the University of St. Thomas in their Graduate Programs in Music Education. She presents Dalcroze workshops around the country to music educators, including at the University of Kentucky, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stevens Point, University of Texas-San Antonio, St. Olaf College, Ashland University in OH, and Winona State University. She is one of the founders of the American Eurhythmics Society and past-president of the Dalcroze Society of America.

Kathy Crockett is a K-5 music educator in the Mounds View school district, and has her Master’s degree in music education from the University of St. Thomas. She co-directs the Turtle Lake African Music Ensemble and Chorus with Master Ghanaian Drummer Sowah Mensah. Outside of school, Crockett is music director of drumHeart, the performance ensemble of the Women’s Drum Center, and is also a certified Remo Health Rhythms facilitator.
