DEMONSTRATION SCHOOL VISIT – WAYZATA

DESCRIPTION:
This day is a unique opportunity to inform your teaching practice through peer observation and introduction to the new Minnesota standards in Music. To accomplish this,

1. We will observe Regional Arts Teacher-Leader Karen Frawley teach gr 6 Band and gr 8 Band, paying attention to areas such as instructional strategies, formative assessment, and/or teaching resources. (Band 6 has a concert on February 6). Think about “Ah-ha!” and “I wonder…” Note that 6th and 7th grade band students are scheduled into like-instrument classes that meet every other day, all year. 8th grade band students meets in a full band setting, with two teachers in the classroom. Band begins in 6th grade.
2. Following the rehearsals, Wendy Barden will facilitate a discussion of our observations and how they connect with the new Minnesota standards in Music.

Take away new ideas and strategies for your own teaching, plus a better understanding of new Music standards.

The day is hosted by Dr. Wendy Barden, Music Education Specialist in Professional Development & Resource Programs at Perpich Center for Arts Education. There is no cost to participate. A certificate for 6 clock hours will be distributed at the end of the day.
Note: The maximum number of participants is 8. Registration will close when we reach that number.
