Music instructor will speak at peace and justice anniversary event
Janika Vandervelde, Perpich music instructor and composer, will speak tomorrow, April 23, 6-8 p.m. on “Sustainable Acts.”
Her presentation is part of a week-long 20th anniversary celebration of the arts committee of the Minnesota Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom. (WILPF). All events are taking place at the Carondelet Center, 1890 Randolph Ave., St. Paul.
The celebration, “Women Creating Art for Peace and Gender Justice,” which includes a retrospective exhibition and extensive programming, also celebrates the 100-year anniversary of WILPF, the 20th anniversary of the UN Beijing Conference on Women and the 93rd anniversary of the Minnesota WILPF chapter. The exhibition and events will continue through Wednesday, April 29.
Vandervelde also will be taking Perpich Arts High School music students to the exhibition tomorrow afternoon as part of their preparation for an upcoming concert series in which the students will be presenting works on the theme of social justice.
