Perpich alum wins directing award from Directors Guild of America

Yoko Okumura (media, ’06) was named best Asian American Filmmaker in the West Region by the Directors Guild of America (DGA) for her work, “Kim Kabuki.”

The award is part of DGA’s 2014 DGA Student Film Awards for African American, Asian American, Latino and Women Directors in the West Region.
 The awards are designed to honor, encourage and bring attention to exceptional diverse directors in film schools and select universities across the county. Okumura is an MFA student at the American Film Institute in Hollywood. A film she was associate producer of, “Fed Up,” showed at the Sundance Festival in January.
Okumura’s film , along with those of the winners in other categories will be screened and the awards presented in a ceremony at the Directors Guild of America Theater in Los Angeles Nov.6.
