Lit grad travels to Ireland to work on book
Katy Cashman (’07, literary), a Los Angeles resident who works in nonprofit development, will be traveling through Europe and then settling into Northern Ireland for three to four months to work on her book in progress.
“Any lit kid will remember Shannon Hannigans’ second semester project: write a short story that takes place in a country with political conflict,” Katy says. “My short story was 50 pages long and more or less incomplete when the semester ended. With John [Colburn] and Shannon’s encouragement and my own drive, I was hooked and began to take the narrative to the next level. Since then, I’ve been researching Northern Ireland intensively including a month long visit in 2009. I received National Honorable Mentions from the NFAA Young Artists Awards for an early draft of this book.”
Katy has started a GoFundMe campaign to help her raise money for her journey.
