Alumna gets rave reviews for show

Maggie Thompson (08, visual) made all the local media with reviews of her current solo show at All My Relations Gallery, 1414 E. Franklin Ave., Minneapolis.

She received praise from the “Star Tribune,” MPR, Daily Planet and “Vita.mn.” Her textile art show, “Where I Fit,” explores her cultural and ethnic identity and her relationship with her father and has been described as “socially powerful,” “remarkably mature skills,” “handsome,” “a stunner,” “clean, beautiful and visually striking” and “not to be missed.” The show runs through May 31. On Friday, April 25, she was part of a panel discussion at the gallery, “Authenticity, Appropriation, and the Arts.” Other panelists included local writer Sasha Houston Brown and Jessica Metcalfe, a former university instructor in American Indian studies and owner of the influential blog, “Beyond Buckskin” that promotes and sells fashion by Native American designers and challenges non-native appropriation and racial stereotypes in the fashion world.
