Four Perpich students win National Merit honors
Four Perpich seniors made the coveted National Merit Scholarship list of semifinalists and commended students.
From left to right; Anna Boguszewski, music, is a National Merit semifinalist and Mary Buie, theater; Io Irvin, visual and Riona Ryan, music, were named commended students.
Boguszewski, a Roseville resident, will continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million to be offered in spring 2015. To become a finalist, Boguszewski and Perpich will submit a detailed scholarship application. She will need an outstanding academic record, be endorsed and recommended by a Perpich official, write an essay and earn SAT scores that confirm her earlier performance on the PSAT.
About 1.4 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the competition by taking the PSAT. Approximately 16,000 were named semifinalists, less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. About 15,000 of the 16,000 semifinalists will advance to finalist and be notified in February 2015. All scholarship winners will be selected from the finalists.
Buie, a St. Anthony resident; Io Irvin, a southwest Minneapolis resident; and Riona Ryan of Mankato are among 34,000 commended students being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. They placed among the top five percent of those who took the PSAT in 2013.
