Perpich offers several opportunities to be a parent volunteer. Itís a great way to become more involved in the Perpich community and get to know other parents, as well as faculty and staff.
Performances at Perpich are ticketed events. Dance, music and theater charge a small fee for performances, currently $8 a ticket for adults (over 18) and $5 for youth and seniors (age 62 and older). (Perpich students and staff may attend for free.) These fees help to support scholarships and other school initiatives. Parents are recruited to sell tickets and pass out programs for the performances. You can volunteer in advance or you can wait for emails sent out before performances to enlist volunteers.
Perpich occasionally takes a table at an art event or festival or fair to promote the center, inform teachers and artists of our professional development activities and to recruit for Crosswinds and the high school. When possible, we like to include parent volunteers to help at the table and to share their experiences with prospective parents. Parents interested in volunteering at exhibits and fairs should contact admissions at Perpich Arts High School.
Every year Perpich brings in prospective students to go through their admission reviews. Prospective parents wait in the atrium, usually feeling nervous on behalf of their students. We ask current parents to stop by to chat with waiting parents to ease their apprehension or, if the parent volunteers prefer, they can help the review panels bring students in and out for their reviews, time spontaneous activities and provide general support for the staff. To learn more about volunteering at admission reviews, contact admissions at Perpich Arts High School.
Every year Perpich exchanges students with the No. 1 Senior High School in Luoyang, China, in the Henan province. The arrival of the Chinese students and their chaperones can be somewhat unpredictable, but they usually arrive for two to three weeks in the fall or spring and the school works to find host families for them on weekends to allow them to experience American family life and work on their English skills.
In addition, Perpich usually hosts two or three French students each year and looks for host families where these students can make brief stays.
Information about both international hosting opportunities usually is sent directly to parent emails with more information on times and dates, along with guidelines to help host families. Questions about international hosting can also be directed to the high school.
