Perpich Outreach coordinator wins statewide award
Jeremy Holien, visual and media arts coordinator for Perpich Outreach, has been given the Distinguished Service within the Profession Award by Art Educators of Minnesota (AEM).
AEM is forwarding his recognition to the National Art Education Association (NAEA) for consideration for a national award.
The Distinguished Service Award recognizes “outstanding achievement, contribution, and service in previous years to the field of art education at state and national levels. Recipients exemplify a longstanding influence that positively impacts the education of students, educational systems, and arts education thought leadership.”
The AEM said that Holien’s “invaluable leadership . . . has helped to advance the state of the arts in Minnesota as he has helped countless art educators build, refine, and polish their craft. Most recently, Jeremy has been working closely with a local suburban school district to pilot the first-ever elementary media arts program in our state. He is also in the process of developing state exemplar curriculum mapping models and frameworks and has responsibilities for creating statewide arts teacher evaluation instruments and processes.”
AEM noted Holien’s contributions on the national level, including his work as a co-author of the National Core Arts Standards in media arts, was honored as a selected participant for the inaugural NAEA 2015 School of Art Leaders, presented on a plethora of topics at numerous NAEA conventions.
