K-12 Academic Standards
The Minnesota Arts Standards Review Committee is forming September, 2017. For more information, and how to apply to be on the committee, go to the Minnesota Department of Education arts page.
Perpich Professional Development team members have expertise with Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards in all arts areas as well as interdisciplinary arts education. We can be instrumental in helping teachers implement the academic standards. If you have questions regarding the standards please contact Perpich Professional Development services.
The current standards went into effect beginning with the 2010–2011 school year for all Minnesota students, kindergarten through 12th grade. The standards were developed by teachers, administrators and community members over two years with collaborative leadership by the Perpich Center for Arts Education and the Minnesota Department of Education. See the links to the left for more information.
The National Core Arts Standards outline what every K-12 student should know and be able to do in the arts. The standards were developed by the Consortium of National Arts Education Associations, through a grant administered by The National Association for Music Education (NAfME). The new national arts education standards were released in June, 2014.
The Common Core Standards are the next generation of K-12 standards in English language arts and mathematics developed by the states through a joint effort. They help ensure that all students are college and career ready by high school graduation. Minnesota has adopted the English language arts common core but not the mathematics common core. For more information on the Common Core Standards and its integration of the arts, go to Common Core and the Arts on the Arts Education Partnership website.
