Common Experience welcomes Wing Young Huie
Perpich welcomes Wing Young Huie as a speaker for "Common Experience." "Common Experience" is a weekly event for all Perpich students featuring speakers from the diverse world of art. Often, speakers are alumni or former faculty of Perpich.
Common Experience welcomed Wing Young Huie. Wing Young Huie is an American photographer born in Duluth, Minnesota. He is known for innovative photography projects which engage the community such as his projects in the Frogtown neighborhood of Saint Paul and along the Lake Street corridor in Minneapolis. He was named as the McKnight Foundation Distinguished Artist in 2018. His new book, "Chinese-ness: The Meanings of Identity and the Nature of Belonging," asks the questions: Is Chinese identity personal, national, cultural, political? Does it migrate, become malleable, or transmuted? What is authentic, sacred, kitsch? Using documentary and conceptual photographic strategies, Wing Young Huie explores the meaning of Chinese-ness in his home state of Minnesota, throughout the United States, and in China.
