
Julie Workman
Julie Workman is a graduate of Yorktown High School in Arlington, VA (1969), earned a bachelors degree in music education from Indiana University in 1973 and did graduate work in string pedagogy at the University of Wisconsin. She played violin in the Rochester (MN) Orchestra for many years and taught orchestra (grades 4-12, with the bulk of her career at the high school level) in the Rochester Public Schools from 1974 until her retirement in 2010. She maintains a private studio of violin and viola students.
In November, 2010 Workman won election to the Rochester School Board and is in her second term (unopposed), which expires in 2018. She has attended the Minnesota School Board Association Winter Conference every year, as well as four National School Board Association Conferences.
In addition, she has completed many hours of school board training (MSBA – Phases I,II, III, IV and others) and is a member of the Delegate Assembly which recommends key issues for consideration to the state legislature. She has been vice chair, chair and is currently vice chair again of the RPS School Board and is involved significantly in policy review and other committee work. RPS is the second largest employer in Rochester, with an annual budget of about $260,000,000.
