You might be surprised how much you can learn in a week’s time, dedicating a few hours a day to learning this versatile instrument! And, like riding a bicycle, once you learn, you will never forget and, thus can look forward to years of enjoyment spending time with your new six-stringed friend! Take advantage of this opportunity to hang out with Bob Frey for a week and learn the foundations of guitar – tuning, chords, strum patterns, fingerpicking patterns, etc. ***Students should bring their own guitar. If you do not have a guitar, Perpich may be able to provide one.

Instructor: Bob Frey
Bob Frey is a Perpich teacher and a Twin Cities musician who has been playing guitar for around 35 years. He has released several albums of all-original songs and performs regularly around the Cities.

June 26 – 30, 2023
9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (one hour for lunch at 12:00 p.m.)

Grade level: 8th – 10th
Class size: Maximum 15

Have you ever wanted to learn how to use professional photography equipment to make amazing photos? In this all-day workshop, students will be introduced to DSLR cameras, shooting techniques, lighting, Adobe Photoshop software, and more.

Together we will explore the fundamentals of photography and the basics of camera operation such as aperture, shutter speed, depth of field, and the rule of thirds. Students will receive hands-on instruction and experience with the tools necessary to brainstorm, compose, and capture digital photographic projects.

This summer photography camp is a fun, hands-on opportunity to develop both practical and artistic skills. Students are encouraged to learn more about the technical aspects of photography — as well as how to use the camera as a tool for creating art and expressing ideas.

Instructor: David Bowman
David Bowman joined Perpich in 2021 in the Media Arts department. Bowman grew up in Chicago, studied writing in Madison, traversed the Australian outback via camel, and drifted to the Twin Cities some time thereafter. One of the first people David met in Minnesota was fashion photographer Richard Avedon. He was giving a talk to students at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, and David asked him what advice he might give a struggling artist. Avedon responded, “Start working.” So he did, ultimately making photographs for the likes of Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, National Geographic, Target, Disney, and Dwell. In time, he earned an MFA and was named Best Of ASMP by the American Society of Media Photographers. You can visit David’s website for more information: https://www.bowmanstudio.com

"[Perpich] has given her direction, skills, and shown her how to express herself through her art. She has grown enormously, and is forever inspired and changed."

Perpich Arts High School Parent

"We had just moved to Minnesota in August, the month before the start of her junior year. She was able to begin the best two years of schooling in her life. We love the school, the staff, and all the school represents in the arts and the community."

“Our greatest concern was not being able to supervise him during these vulnerable years. We live 250 miles from the school and we couldn’t imagine how we would maintain the quality of communication we felt necessary. What resolved our concerns was how attentive the staff was to the residents. They initiated contact with us as needed and asked all the ‘right’ questions. We feel we’ve continued to have close intimate connection with our son despite the distance. And the dorm staff fosters it.”

Perpich Arts High School Dorm Parent

"For 17 years I’d carried the bulk of my children’s education myself. Sending the two oldest away to Perpich was a huge step of faith and I have not been disappointed. The teachers, in particular, have been fabulous!"

Perpich Arts High School Parent

“Our greatest concern about sending our daughter to live at the dorm was her safety. After attending an information session and orientation day, we felt much more secure. The dorm is set up with a set of very reasonable yet strict rules; our daughter wanted to attend the Arts High School badly enough that she was willing to follow those rules. She has learned to balance her life on her own, to live with other people and their differences, and she’s felt a little freedom.”
