DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION HERE \nDATE AND TIME:\nThursday\, November 10\, 2022 (8:15 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.)\n8:15 a.m. – Plan to arrive\n8:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. – Observe Bethany Engen’s general music classes in grades 3-6 plus high school choir\, paying close attention to classroom routines and community\n12:00 p.m. – 12:30 p.m. – We’ll eat lunch together at a local cafe or coffee shop (we each pay for our own)\n12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. – Professional development including a discussion of our observations \nDESCRIPTION:\nThis day is a unique opportunity to a) inform your teaching practice through peer observation and discussion and b) form stronger connections with music teachers nearby. To accomplish this\, \n\nWe will observe Bethany Engen teach five general music classes in grades 3 through 6\, plus high school choir. Pay particular attention to their classroom routines and community. Think about “Ah-ha!” and “I wonder…”\nFollowing the classes\, we’ll enjoy lunch together at a local cafe or coffee shop. Wendy Barden will facilitate a discussion of our observations and other topics of interest to participants.\nWe will provide up-to-date COVID-19 protocols closer to November 10.\n\nTake away new ideas and strategies for your own teaching! \nDETAILS:\nThe day is hosted by Dr. Wendy Barden\, Director of Professional Development & Resource Programs at Perpich Center for Arts Education. Don’t cancel it! But…how do we continue to perform it? Join “Final Bow for Yellowface” co-founder Phil Chan as he shares his creative practice of reimagining important European works like “Madama Butterfly” and “La Bayadere” for a multiracial audience\, and expand your own toolbox and vocabulary when presenting depictions of non-European cultures on stage. \nPhil Chan is a co-founder of Final Bow for Yellowface\, and author of Final Bow for Yellowface: Dancing between Intention and Impact\, and the President of the Gold Standard Arts Foundation. He is a graduate of Carleton College and an alumnus of the Ailey School. He has held fellowships with NYU\, the Manhattan School of Music\, New York Public Library for the Performing Arts\, and is currently a fellow at Harvard University\, Drexel University\, and the Institut National d’Histoire de l’Art in Paris. As a writer\, he served as the Executive Editor for FLATT Magazine and contributed to Dance Europe Magazine\, Dance Magazine\, Dance Business Weekly\, and the Huffington Post\, and current serves on the Advisory Board of Dance Magazine. He served multiple years on the National Endowment for the Arts dance panel and the Jadin Wong Award panel presented by the Asian American Arts Alliance. His latest choreography project\, the “Ballet des Porcelaines\,” premiered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in December 2021 and will tour throughout 2022. He is a Benedict Distinguished Visiting Professor of Dance at Carleton College in Fall 2022\, and was just named a Next 50 Arts Leader by the Kennedy Center.

DESCRIPTION:One thing that’s great and unique about the lit program at Perpich is that we have so much communication between juniors and seniors. The juniors take inspiration from the seniors’ work and the seniors\, in turn\, gain a fresh pair of eyes on their stuff. Then the seniors graduate\, a crop of new juniors appear\, and the cycle starts again.
