DESCRIPTION:Rootedness and Futurity: Integrating Arts + Philosophies of Minnesota Native Americans in Curriculum Development – August 13\, 2024 \nFacilitated by the Perpich Professional Development and Resource Programs team \nOne-day workshop for arts educators on Tuesday\, August 13\, 2024 at Perpich Center for Arts Education – 6125 Olson Memorial Highway\, Golden Valley \nDATE and TIME: Tuesday\, August 13\, 2024 (8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.)\nConference check-in will open at 8:00 a.m. and the plenary session will begin at 9:00 a.m. \nLOCATION: Perpich Center for Arts Education\n6125 Olson Memorial Highway\nGolden Valley\, MN 55422 \nDESCRIPTION: This conference\, intended for K-12 arts educators\, is centered on anchor standard 10 of the Minnesota K-12 Arts Standards. The day will include personal learning\, examples of lessons developed by K-12 arts educators\, and time to develop your own lesson ideas with others. Guest speakers for plenary sessions are Darlene St. Clair (Lower Sioux Community) and Jamie Edwards (Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe). \nAll participants will be part of an arts-specific cohort in the afternoon—dance\, music\, theater\, and visual arts—and need to register using the appropriate link below.   \nCONFERENCE TAKEAWAYS: \n\nBetter understanding of the history/journey to include Minnesota tribes and communities in Minnesota Academic Standards\nRecognition of multiple valuable ways to think about art and what artists do\nRecognition of “we are living in draft”—it is possible to move forward in your work now and make a commitment to continue to grow and change\nIdeas and examples of lessons other K-12 arts educators have brought to their students\nEmerging lesson ideas and plans for your own classes\n\nMORE DETAILS: \n\nThis conference is intended for K-12 arts educators who are currently teaching.\nSeating is limited and a waitlist will be started once spaces fill. If your plans change and you are no longer able to attend\, please cancel by August 1 so someone from the waitlist may have an opportunity to attend.\nThere is no cost to participate in this conference.
