SUMMARY:PERPICH SUMMER MUSIC PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS - AUGUST 6\, 2026 "JAZZ INSPIRED DANCES: MOVEMENT\, MUSIC AND FUN!"
DESCRIPTION:Perpich is excited to offer a series of five (5) summer Professional Development sessions for music teachers. All workshops will be in person at Perpich Center for Arts Education in Golden Valley in August\, 2026. Each workshop will be filled with teaching resources\, strategies\, and experiences you can use in your teaching this fall. Come to one or all five! Workshops will run 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.\, followed by an optional lunch at a nearby restaurant. Register for each session separately and earn 4 clock hours for each session\, plus an additional hour if you attend lunch. There is no cost to participate. \nThursday\, August 6 – Jazz Inspired Dances – Movement\, Music and Fun! \nDATE: Thursday\, August 6\, 2026 \nTIME: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.\, plus optional off-campus lunch \nREGISTRATION HERE \nLOCATION (in-person):\nPerpich Center for Arts Education\nGaia Building – Glass Box\n6125 Olson Memorial Hwy\, Golden Valley\, MN 55422\n*Gaia is the white building label 6105 on the east side of Perpich campus by the soccer fields \nDESCRIPTION: Learn a variety of vernacular jazz movements that explore shapes\, levels\, pathways and timing and connect to current popular dances. Explore music and movement that engages students in rhythm and syncopation. Have fun with movement and support your students as they create their own combinations and their own line dances! \nTARGET AUDIENCE: This workshop is designed for K-12 general music teachers. \nDETAILS: \n\nEach workshop will take place 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.\nThere is no cost to participate but a separate registration is required for each day.\nWater and snacks will be provided.\nAn optional networking lunch will follow each workshop. DESCRIPTION:Are you new to your role and/or ready to gain a deeper understanding of the newest Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards in the Arts? The Minnesota legislature set the 2023-2024 school year as the implementation date of the new Arts standards. And\, effective August 1\, 2024\, Minn. Statute requires use of these standards in K-12 arts classes — there is no longer the option of basing curriculum on locally-developed standards. \nThis 45-minute seminar is the perfect opportunity for school leaders (and arts educators) to: \n\n\nLearn more about the Minnesota K-12 Arts standards and benchmarks\, and\nCollect resources to support the work of music\, visual arts\, media arts\, dance\, and theater teachers in standards implementation.\n\nREGISTER HERE \nINTENDED PARTICIPANTS: This seminar is intended for K-12 school leaders (and arts educators). \nFACILITATOR: The presenter is Dr. Wendy Barden\, Director of Professional Development and Resource Programs at Perpich Center for Arts Education. \nDATES AND TIMES: This session is offered four times.
