Grants can be an excellent source of revenue\, but where do you find them? How do you write them? And what else do you need to know to make this stream of funding worthwhile? In this workshop\, we’ll cover the basic who\, what\, where\, when\, why\, and how of grant writing. We’ll also identify key sources and tools for finding more\, as well as breaking down the specific and unique writing style required for grants. Participants will have plenty of time for questions! Whether it is your first time researching\, writing\, submitting\, and managing a grant\, or you just need a refresher\, join us and sharpen your grant writing skills and savvy. \nPRESENTER: The presenter for this session is Stephanie Lein Walseth\, Ph.D.\, Perpich’s Theater Education Specialist\, and a theater educator\, artist\, administrator\, and scholar with over 20 years of experience working with students and artists of all ages. And how can I put it into practice in my arts classroom?\n\nCulturally Sustaining Pedagogy (CSP) is a framework for the practice of teaching that was coined in recent years by Django Paris and emerged out of a lineage of Culturally Relevant and Culturally Responsive Pedagogy cultivated by Gloria Ladson-Billings\, Geneva Gay\, and others. \nIn a rapidly diversifying educational landscape\, CSP proposes that school can be a place for sustaining\, rather than eliminating\, the cultural practices of communities of color. What does this mean in Minnesota\, where roughly 34% of students identify as BIPOC\, in contrast to only 5% of educators? This event addresses anchor standard #10 and is intended for arts educators who are currently teaching in a K-12 school. Participants will be split between four cohorts: dance\, music\, theater\, and visual arts. Attendance on both day one (the tour) and day two (the workshop) is required. \n\nDAY ONE – AUGUST 3: (8:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.) – Experience the Learning from Place: Bdote Tour at Fort Snelling State Park and Indian Mounds Regional Park led by the Minnesota Humanities Center. \nMeet at Fort Snelling State Park (101 Snelling Lake Road\, St. Paul) at 8:00 a.m. In the morning session\, participants will take a walking tour and learn from Dakota community members through stories and histories (many of which have often been left out of our state’s history). The afternoon session will take place at Indian Mounds Regional Park (10 Mounds Blvd\, St. Paul). \nParticipants need to provide their own transportation\, lunch\, snacks\, and beverages for the day. Also note: A park permit is required per vehicle when entering Fort Snelling State Park. \nA tour guide sound system will be available so that everyone can hear the presenters clearly while practicing safe social distancing. When you check in\, you will receive a small receiver for the day. Please bring your own headphones (regular jack\, no blue tooth) if you have them; otherwise\, we can provide you with disposable headphones. We will collect the receivers at the end of the day. Indoor bathrooms are available at both locations. \nThe tour will occur rain or shine. Please dress accordingly. Wear sensible footwear for walking and a rain jacket or umbrella in case of rain. \n\nDAY TWO – AUGUST 4: (9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.)\nMeet at Perpich Center for Arts Education (6125 Olson Memorial Highway\, Golden Valley) at 9:00 a.m. Together we will reflect on the Bdote tour\, and out of that\, create resources in alignment with anchor standard #10 that you can use in your own teaching . An hour is planned for lunch on your own. \n\nPAYMENT: \n\nThe cost of this workshop is $35 which covers the cost of two resource books. You will receive your books on day two of the workshop. Registration is not confirmed until payment is finalized.\nYou can make payment one of two ways: 1) Call Perpich at 763-279-4200 between 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. M-F to pay via credit card\, or 2) mail a check to Perpich Center for Arts Education\, 6125 Olson Memorial Hwy\, Golden Valley\, MN 55422 (please reference Bdote someplace on your check).\nAll payments must received by July 27.
