DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE \nOn Wednesday\, April 19\, Perpich Center for Arts Education is hosting a Relicensure Series Double Header–two virtual sessions that address two topics required for renewal of Tier 3 and Tier 4 licenses in Minnesota. These are two different sessions with different content. Plan to attend one or both! \nSupporting Text Reading in Arts Classes (4:10 p.m. – 5:10 p.m.)\nIncluded will be topics such as practice in phonemic awareness and phonics; vocabulary–fluency–comprehension; and instruction that fosters understanding and higher-order thinking. \nCreating More Inclusive Arts Classes for English Learners (5:15 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.)\nThis session focuses on instructional strategies that increase understanding and communication for English Learners–for all learners. \nOur presenter is Dr. Wendy Barden. Wendy serves as Director of Professional Development and Resource Programs at Perpich Center. In these sessions\, she weaves her 4+ decades of experience in music education with the expertise of others to bring practical and important ideas for your teaching. \nMORE DETAILS: \n\nThese are online/virtual sessions. How do we protect ourselves and our students when: \n\n\nWe work with students individually?\nWe often use touch as a teaching tool?\nStudents surface issues through their artwork?\nEmotions are inherent in the arts and art-making?\n\nOur presenter is Debra Corhouse\, staff attorney at Education Minnesota. From her experience\, Ms. Corhouse will talk through topics such as regulating interactions with students\, communication\, and what to do if you learn about a potentially unethical situation. Plan to attend one or both! \nAccommodation and Modification in Arts Classes (4:10 p.m. – 5:10 p.m.)\nIn this session\, we will be reminded of accommodating\, modifying\, and adapting curricula\, materials\, and strategies to appropriately meet the needs of individual students and ensure adequate progress toward the state’s graduation rule. \nSupporting Student Engagement in Arts Classes (5:15 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.)\nThis session focuses on supporting classroom community and student engagement so all can learn in our Arts classes. \nOur presenter is Dr. Wendy Barden.
