DESCRIPTION:Now in it’s third season\, the Elementary Art Cohort is a professional development experience designed for new teachers\, classroom generalists who are teaching their own art\, and Tier 1 and Tier 2 teachers who are new to teaching\, as well as elementary visual arts specialists who want to deepen their practice. Participants will engage in collaborative learning with other educators committed to advancing artistic thinking and creative literacy in elementary learners. Whether you are an experienced art educator refining your approach or a classroom teacher integrating the arts into your curriculum\, this cohort will support your growth with structure\, flexibility\, and inspiration. \nOver the course of the year\, participants will engage with a cycle of learning that centers on big ideas\, artistic inquiry\, studio experimentation\, and reflection. The work is grounded in frameworks such as the Minnesota Academic Standards in the Arts\, the Studio Habits of Mind\, and concept-based curriculum and instruction. SUMMARY:2026 RELICENSURE TOPICS SERIES FOR ARTS EDUCATORS - LEARNING FROM OJIBWE AUTHORS & ILLUSTRATORS
DESCRIPTION:In January – March 2026\, Perpich Center for Arts Education is hosting our 5th annual series of virtual sessions on topics required for renewal of Tier 3 and Tier 4 licenses in Minnesota. This year’s series addresses SIX of the required topics and each topic is offered twice. Examples of the strategies shared will come from arts classrooms but all educators are welcome! \nLEARNING FROM OJIBWE AUTHORS & ILLUSTRATORS\nIn video interviews\, four Ojibwe authors/illustrators share their work and provide a window into their culture and history: Thomas Peacock (Fond du Lac)\, Marcie Rendon (White Earth)\, Jonathan Thunder (Red Lake)\, and Anton Treuer (Leech Lake). Allison Waukau (Menominee/Navajo) also offers insights for selecting Native literature to bring into your teaching. This session addresses the topic of Cultural Heritage and Contemporary Contributions of American Indians.\nOffered on: Thursday\, January 22 (4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.) and repeated Tuesday\, February 24 (4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.) \nREGISTER HERE \nMORE DETAILS:  \n\nThese are online/virtual sessions.
