Let’s dance together and inspire each other with presence\, breath and artistry! Let’s deepen our self-awareness as both movers and teachers as we navigate teaching dance in this time. \n\nABOUT THE SUMMIT: This is the second half of this year’s Dance Summit. Part Two features Elayna Waxse\, freelance choreographer and dance educator\, and Helen Buck-Pavlick\, Fine Arts Education Specialist for Ohio. \nElayna will lead us in a class that contextualizes contemporary dance technique as an ongoing process of body awareness within larger ecological systems. Utilizing improvisation\, set phrasework\, somatic exercises and conversation\, we will explore sensation\, instinct and ease in movement. \nHelen will lead us in a workshop that will review the Social Emotional Learning Competencies of self-awareness\, self-management\, social awareness\, relationship skills\, and responsible decision making in conjunction with the National Artistic Processes of creating\, performing\, responding\, and connecting. \nWe will identify connections you are already doing and explore how to intentionally integrate SEL and Arts Standards with the dance practices and lessons you are already implementing. These are two different sessions with different content. Plan to attend one or both! \nSupporting Text Reading in Arts Classes (4:10 p.m. – 5:10 p.m.)\nIncluded will be topics such as practice in phonemic awareness and phonics; vocabulary–fluency–comprehension; and instruction that fosters understanding and higher-order thinking. \nCreating More Inclusive Arts Classes for English Learners (5:15 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.)\nThis session focuses on instructional strategies that increase understanding and communication for English Learners–for all learners. \nOur presenter is Dr. Wendy Barden.
