SUMMARY:RELICENSURE TOPICS THROUGH THE ARTS - SUPPORTING STUDENT ENGAGEMENT/PBIS IN ARTS CLASSES
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE \nIn January – March 2025: Perpich Center for Arts Education is hosting a series of virtual sessions on three topics required for renewal of Tier 3 and Tier 4 licenses in Minnesota. This year\, topics will be offered as both a one-hour session (part of a double header) and a more interactive two-hour session! Choose the date and option that works best for you. \nSUPPORTING STUDENT ENGAGEMENT/PBIS IN ARTS CLASSES – Related to Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies (PBIS)\, this session focuses on nurturing a supportive classroom community\, the impact of adult decisions on community\, and resulting student engagement in arts classes. One-hour sessions: Wednesday\, January 22 (5:20 p.m. – 6:20 p.m.) or Thursday\, February 6 (4:15 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.). Two-hour session: Tuesday\, March 4 (4:15 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.). \nMORE DETAILS:  \n\nThese are online/virtual sessions. The Zoom link will be sent to participants prior to the sessions.\nSessions will NOT be recorded for later viewing.\nParticipants are encouraged to engage fully with video cameras on if at all possible.\nParticipants will complete a brief evaluation form to receive the clock hours certificate(s).\nThere is no cost to participate.\nThe presenter is Dr. Wendy Barden\, Director of Professional Development and Resource Programs at Perpich Center for Arts Education. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE \nDATE AND TIME: Tuesday\, March 11\, 2025 (5:15 – 6:30 pm) \nLOCATION:\nPerpich Center for Arts Education – Main Building\n6125 Olson Memorial Highway\nGolden Valley\, MN 55422 \nABOUT THIS EVENT: We are excited to host a series of guest speakers specifically designed to introduce K-12 educators and librarians to books by Dakota and Ojibwe authors and illustrators. Each gathering features an interview and Q&A with the guest presenter and time in the Perpich Library to peruse our extensive collection of books by Native authors. \nTuesday\, March 11\, our guest is Kim Sigafus (White Earth Nation)\, an internationally-published\, award-winning author and speaker. “Bekaadiziikwe” is her Ojibwa name\, meaning “Quiet Woman”. Kim writes in many genres including Native American fiction\, non-fiction\, YA\, and children’s books. She’s written plays that have been produced\, too. Kim also enjoys sharing her culture with others. She travels throughout the United States doing Native programs for schools and libraries\, and has presented at conferences and museums including the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. \nSome of the books by Kim Sigafus: \n\nNative Writers\, Voices of Power\nNative Elders\, Sharing Their Wisdom\nNowhere to Hide\nAutumn’s Dawn\nFinding Grace\nWhisper to the Sky\nYesterday’s Rain\nA Quiet Storm\n\nThe first 40 people attending this event will receive a free book. \nWe look forward to talking with Kim Sigafus about her work and how K-12 educators can bring her experiences into their classrooms! \nDETAILS: \n\nThere is no cost to attend the Native Authors series.\nLight snacks will be provided.\nA clock hours form will be available following the session.
