While the passion for arts education is deeply felt\, effectively advocating for and sustaining robust programs requires a well-articulated\, actionable framework. This session will equip co-chairs and district administration with the rationale and initial tools to embark on such a crucial planning process. \n10:30 a.m.    Break \n10:40 a.m.    Launching and Leading Your Local CAPP Committee\nThis session is designed for co-chairs and district administrators committed to establishing and leading an effective arts education committee within their school district and community. It addresses the critical steps involved in launching and leading a successful committee while drawing on recent experiences and diverse configurations of past CAPP cohorts. Participants will analyze various committee structures and dissect roles and responsibilities of their committee. Furthermore\, this session will explore methods for identifying key allies within school districts and cultivating a diverse\, effective team to advocate for robust arts education. \n11:30 a.m.    Insights & Lessons Learned from past CAPP cohorts\nLearn from past participants of the Comprehensive Arts Planning Program as they reflect on leading their committees\, creating a strategic plan\, working with various stakeholders in their district\, and implementing programs and projects large and small. \n12:10 p.m.    LUNCH \n12:40 p.m.    MN K-12 Academic Standards in the Arts\nThis presentation dives into the 2018 K-12 Minnesota Academic Standards in the Arts. Topics include why or how the standards and benchmarks look the way they do; understanding Foundations and the Create\, Perform\, Respond\, and Connect processes; recognizing specific language used in the benchmarks; and a description of the standards and benchmarks formatted in three ways. This workshop will be tailored to the group and their questions regarding standards implementation. \n1:30 p.m.    Break \n1:40 p.m.    Beginning Your Arts Program Analysis – Current Reality and Needs Assessment\nThis session is the first crucial step in strategically strengthening an arts education program: understanding the current reality of the district’s arts education programming. Before charting future goals\, it is essential to rigorously assess what currently exists and what is truly needed. Participants will learn practical approaches and tools for conducting comprehensive needs assessment for their district’s arts education offerings. \n2:40 p.m.    Logistics for Next Planning Meetings and Workshops in Local Districts \n3:00 p.m.    Wrap-Up \nClock hours and BOSA hours will be available for this conference. \nLunch will be catered. Please note any special dietary needs in the registration form. \nHotel rooms are available on the night of Tuesday\, August 12th for those who live more than 2 hours away from Perpich Center. DESCRIPTION:Are you new to your role and/or ready to gain a deeper understanding of the newest Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards in the Arts? The Minnesota legislature set the 2023-2024 school year as the implementation date of the new Arts standards. And\, effective August 1\, 2024\, Minn. DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the 2025 Minnesota Dance Summer Workshop hosted by Perpich Center for Arts Education! \nRHYTHM AND LEGACY\nPresenters – Davente Gilreath (Dance 2010)\, Matthew Wagner (Dance 1999)\, Mary Harding \nDATE AND TIME: \nThursday\, August 14\, 2025\n8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. \nRegistration Due by August 4\, 2025. \nAbout the Summer Workshop: Join us for a day-long exploration of rhythm and legacy. Guest teachers Davente Gilreath and Matthew Wagner will ground us in physical practice that highlights coordination\, rhythm\, and line. We will delve deeply into styles and genres – modern Afro-Caribbean (Davente) and tap groove (Matthew). As we dance\, we will question and reframe history\, both ours as teachers and the history of the form. \nWe will dance\, we will discuss\, and we will thread our work with the naming of our legacies as movers as we introduce our students to a more inclusive history. \nLearning Outcomes: Participants will learn movements based on techniques\, styles\, and genres of guest artists. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE \nThursday\, August 14\, 2025 (9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.) \nDESCRIPTION:\nWe’ve heard from several teachers across Minnesota that they are ready to develop or refine lessons through an arts integration lens but could use a bit of experienced support. Might this include teachers from your school district? \nThis summer we have two opportunities for workshopping your arts integration ideas—Thursday\, June 12 and Thursday\, August 14. These days will begin with an introduction to our arts integration continuum and examples of integrated lessons\, but then the majority of each day will be supported work time. Bring your ideas\, teaching resources\, and one or more colleagues to Perpich Center for either or both days. Here’s a great opportunity to get a head start on lesson planning for the new school year! Participants are strongly encouraged to attend as a team: arts educator + non-arts/classroom educator(s). \nLOCATION:\nPerpich Center for Arts Education – Gaia Building\n6125 Olson Memorial Highway\nGolden Valley\, MN 55422 \nOnce you arrive to campus\, follow the road around to the left and past the soccer field. The Gaia Building is the 2-story white building back by the woods.
