DESCRIPTION:Perpich Center for Arts Education would like to invite you to a meeting about dance and theater teacher licensing. Perpich Center\, MDE\, and PELSB are preparing for future rulemaking regarding the teaching licensure standards in the arts—dance\, media arts\, music\, theater\, and visual arts. Reviewing these requirements for adequate reflection of the evolving needs of K-12 students\, schools\, and communities is an important undertaking. This process presents a great opportunity for input from the field\, and the results of this process will have an impact on the future of arts education in our state. Moving forward\, your input and involvement are crucial to ensure a successful outcome. \nThere are two info sessions available for dance and theater: \n\nTuesday\, September 23 from 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.\, or\nWednesday\, October 1 from 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.\n\n\n\nREGISTRATION HERE \n\nOther Details: \n\nWhat: We will share the steering committee recommendations and opportunities for participation and feedback. We will explain the steps taken so far and outline the next courses of action. There will also be time for asking clarifying questions. Each session is the same\, therefore participants only need to choose one session to attend.\nWho: This meeting is open to the public\, and is especially intended for those looking to learn more about potential changes to dance and theater licensing in Minnesota.\nWhere: This is a virtual meeting. A zoom link will be sent out before each session.\nQuestions? To accomplish this\, \n\nWe will observe Molly McElroy teach 5th\, 1st\, and Kindergarten Drama Classes. We will pay particular attention to classroom routines\, rituals\, and community building. Think about your “Ah-ha!” and “I wonder…” moments.\nFollowing the classroom observation\, Perpich Theater Education Specialist Stephanie Lein Walseth will facilitate a discussion of our observations and then introduce you to opportunities to connect our observations into practical implementation ideas focused on the Minnesota Academic Standards in Theater among other guiding principles and documents.\nYou will take away new ideas and strategies for your classroom\, plus have a better understanding of how the new theater standards relate to the classes you teach.\n\n\n\nDETAILS: \n\nThe day is hosted by Dr. Stephanie Lein Walseth\, Theater Education Specialist in Professional Development & Resource Programs at Perpich Center for Arts Education.
