Perpich is also on a bus route.\nEnter through the main doors and proceed down the stairs to check in. \nDESCRIPTION:\nThe Perpich Center is thrilled to present a Lecture/Demonstration by the groundbreaking Spiderwoman Theater – the longest-running Native American theater company in the country – on Tuesday\, March 5th from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Please join us to learn about Spiderwoman’s unique methodology of theater-making. “Storyweaving” describes the layering of stories\, images\, sound\, movement\, and music\, creating a three dimensional tapestry which is embodied in space and becomes the theater production. \nFor more information about the company\, visit their website at: https://www.spiderwomantheater.org/ \nWHO:\nPresenters: Founding Member and Artistic Director Muriel Miguel (Kuna/Rappahannock) and other members of Spiderwoman Theater\, as well as cast/creative team members from their touring production of Misdemeanor Dream. \nParticipants: This lecture/demonstration is geared for both students and educators\, specifically K-12/College/University Theater and Arts Students\, Educators\, and Directors. (Space limit is 160 people. Priority will be given to theater and arts students\, educators\, and directors\, but all are welcome!) \nWHY:\nLearn firsthand from the country’s longest-running Native American\, multiracial\, feminist theater companies about their unique methodology of theater-making called Storyweaving. Deepen and diversify your ability to RESPOND and CONNECT to the arts\, especially your skills for analyzing and interpreting artistic forms. Develop an understanding of how Spiderwoman Theater artists “integrate knowledge and personal experiences while responding to\, creating\, and presenting artistic work\,” and the ways in which “artistic works influence and are influenced by personal\, societal\, cultural\, and historical contexts.” Come to listen\, be with\, and witness these legendary women in person!!! \n(*Language in quotes comes from the latest version of the MN K-12 Arts Standards\, Anchor Standards and Theater Benchmarks.) \nREGISTRATION FEE – FREE \nCLOCK HOURS\nEducators will receive 2 Professional Development clock hours for attending. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE \nDATE AND TIME: Tuesday\, March 5\, 2024 (5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.) \nLOCATION:\nPerpich Center for Arts Education – Main Building\n6125 Olson Memorial Highway\nGolden Valley\, MN 55422 \nABOUT THIS EVENT:\nIn our Native Authors Series\, we are excited to showcase renowned guest presenters that introduce K-12 educators and librarians to books by Dakota and Ojibwe authors and illustrators. This regular series takes place at Perpich Center for Arts Education. Each gathering features an interview and Q&A with a special guest\, provides resource lists\, and offers time in the Perpich Library to peruse our extensive collection of books by Native authors. Can’t make it to Perpich Center for the “live” event? Watch our website for resources and a video recording of each interview. \nOn Tuesday\, March 5\, we are excited to welcome Jonathan Thunder as our guest! \nJonathan Thunder (Red Lake Ojibwe) is the illustrator of the award-recognized Bowwow Powwow by Brenda J. Child (Red Lake Ojibwe). We look forward to talking with Jonathan about his work as an illustrator\, along with his work as an artist using a wide range of mediums. He is known for his surreal paintings\, digitally animated films\, and installations in which he addresses subject matter of personal experience and social commentary. \nJonathan attended the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Santa Fe\, NM and studied Visual Effects and Motion Graphics in Minneapolis\, MN at the Art Institute International. His work has been featured in many state\, regional\, and national exhibitions\, and is in the permanent collections of museums and universities. Thunder is the recipient of a 2020-21 Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award for his risk taking in painting. \nDETAILS: \n\nThere is no cost to attend the Native Authors series.\nLight refreshments will be provided.\nA clock hours form will be available following the session.
