DESCRIPTION:Perpich Center for Arts Education is committed to being part of a support system for early-career and Tier 1 and Tier 2 Arts educators teaching dance\, theater\, music\, visual arts\, and media arts! A year-long menu of opportunities is planned\, beginning with an in-person workshop in September. \nREGISTER HERE \nSEPTEMBER WORKSHOP: In this initial\, in-person workshop\, early-career and Tier 1/2 Arts educators will: \n\nExplore systems\, procedures\, and routines in an Arts classroom\nConsider proactive classroom management strategies in an Arts classroom\nGain understanding of the new Arts standards and benchmarks\nDig into the basics of lesson design\, learning targets\, and formative/summative assessment in an Arts classroom\nLook at vocabulary for talking about teaching and learning in an Arts classroom\nBegin to develop a network of support with other participants and Arts Education specialists from Perpich Center\nTake away ready-to-use lesson ideas/strategies.\n\nThe workshop is facilitated by the team of Arts education specialists in PDR\, all with extensive teaching experience in the Arts and experience in leading professional development for K-12 educators.  \nSEPTEMBER WORKSHOP DATES AND LOCATIONS: This workshop is presented two times. DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION HERE \nDATE AND TIME: Wednesday\, November 15\, 2023 (4:30 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.)\n \nDESCRIPTION:\nCulturally Sustaining Pedagogy. What is it? Why is it important? And how can I put it into practice in my arts classroom?\n\nCulturally Sustaining Pedagogy (CSP) is a framework for the practice of teaching that was coined in recent years by Django Paris and emerged out of a lineage of Culturally Relevant and Culturally Responsive Pedagogy cultivated by Gloria Ladson-Billings\, Geneva Gay\, and others. \nIn a rapidly diversifying educational landscape\, CSP proposes that school can be a place for sustaining\, rather than eliminating\, the cultural practices of communities of color. What does this mean in Minnesota\, where roughly 34% of students identify as BIPOC\, in contrast to only 5% of educators? Allison is the Tribal Liaison & Native Relations Coordinator for the Metropolitan Council of the Twin Cities\, and serves as president of the American Indian Library Association. This past fall\, Allison served as the Native American Exhibition Outreach Assistant at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. And\, for five years\, Allison served as the American Indian Community Liaison at the Hennepin County Library\, where she was instrumental in raising Native representation on the shelves and behind the scenes\, making libraries more welcoming to Native community members. \nAllison holds a B.A. in Humanities from Fort Lewis College\, Durango\, CO. She has presented at various conferences\, including the Association of Tribal Archives\, Libraries & Museums and the Minnesota Library Association Conference. SUMMARY:NEW TO TEACHING ART IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COHORT
DESCRIPTION:Exciting news! We’re broadening the reach of our Teaching Art in the Elementary School cohort to welcome new Tier 1/Tier 2 licensed elementary art teachers. Our goal is to support elementary visual arts teachers who are 1) new to their career or 2) new to teaching elementary art or 3) a classroom generalist teacher who teaches their own art within their classroom. \nRegardless of which group you find yourself in\, our comprehensive program is made for you\, ensuring that you can confidently teach in and through the arts. \nHere’s what this enriching opportunity offers: \n\nEffective Strategies: Discover strategies that work\, empowering you to nurture creativity while teaching visual arts.\nConfidence and Expertise: Gain the confidence and expertise needed to lead engaging art learning experiences..\nInvaluable Resources: Access a wealth of resources to enhance your teaching approach.\nInstructional Coaches: Benefit from the guidance of experienced instructional coaches who understand the intricacies of elementary art education.\nClassroom Materials Management: Learn how to efficiently manage art materials in your classroom.\nEffective Artwork Assessment: Develop the skills to assess artwork effectively and meaningfully.\n\nEmpower your students with high-quality art instruction that captures their interest and unlocks their artistic potential. In between daylong workshops at the Perpich Center\, you will also have access to coaching from our instructional coaches who have a wealth of experience teaching elementary art. DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the 2024 Minnesota Dance Summit hosted by Perpich Center for Arts Education! \nREGISTRATION LINK\nRegistration Due by February 1\, 2024\nThe first 30 people who register for the 2024 Dance Summit will receive a free copy of Crystal’s book! (You must attend the Summit to receive the book) \nImplicit Bias: Challenges and Gifts in Dance Education\nFacilitated by Crystal U. Davis \nDATE AND TIME: \nFriday\, February 9th from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. AND\nSaturday\, February 10th from 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. \n\nThe Summit this year will take place over two days. We encourage you to register for both days if possible\, to take advantage of this time to work with Crystal. However\, if your schedule will only allow you to join us for one day\, you are still more than welcome to attend. Each day we will cover different content\, and each session will give you a unique set of tools\, strategies and experiences to take into your teaching practice. \n*Please note that we will provide participants with lunch on Saturday. We ask that you list your dietary restrictions in the form below. Thank you! \n\nABOUT THE SUMMIT: This workshop series is an introduction to what implicit bias is\, how it relates to and manifests in our work in the field of dance education\, and how we might combat its effects in our work. It is the result of research conducted on the question\, “How do our implicit biases affect how we perceive\, support\, assess\, and embody human movement?” Come together with a community of educators to create community\, examine implicit bias\, explore methods and practices\, and dance together. While the focus of this workshop is primarily racial bias\, it also provides resources to support dance educator examination of other ways in which educators may carry biases in our work. Crystal U. Davis will support us as we work together to be more inclusive teachers. \nLEARNING GOALS: \n\nBy the end of the this workshop series\, participants will be able to: \n\n\nArticulate what implicit bias is\, its manifestations\, and feeders.\nDevelop methods to modify classroom teaching strategies\, content\, and environment to reduce the negative effects of bias\nEstablish sustainable practices and strategies for collegial and student supports to deepen an understanding of teacher and student implicit biases\n\nLOCATION:\nPerpich Center for Arts Education – Dance Studio\n6125 Olson Memorial Hwy\, Golden Valley\, MN  55422 \nREGISTRATION FEE: FREE \nCLOCK HOURS\nYou will receive 7 Professional Development clock hours for attending the entire Summit.
