The morning session will continue to build upon the structure\, knowledge\, and resources of our past roundtable gatherings\, and you’re welcome to join whether you are returning or new to this circle! \nYou asked for more time in the afternoon\, and you’ve got it! Want to go deeper? Stick around for the afternoon and begin lesson planning\, connecting more deeply with your colleagues\, and/or dive into learning about new technology or tools that you learned about in the morning. This session aims to allow that connective tissue time\, to bridge new discoveries into practical realities. \nThis day is FOR you and will be largely shaped BY you! It is about sharing and connecting with one another\, and building on the collective wisdom in the room. Drawing upon your takeaway thoughts from last winter about what is top of mind for you\, we will focus on (some or all of) these topics at this gathering: \n\nCommunity building game/activity/exercise sharing\nLesson or Unit Plan sharing\nBackwards planning for scope\, sequence\, and skill building\nStrategies for engaging reluctant learners and/or managing large class sizes\nCollaborating with music directors\, tech directors\, and other key partners\nHow to start a program: building a team\, creating a budget\, selecting a show\nWhatever else feels needed right now!\n\nIn the registration form\, please be sure to indicate what you might be willing to share (from the list above). I’ll follow up asking for more details as we get closer\, and then I’ll work to structure the day and the conversations accordingly! DESCRIPTION:Classic Perpich Senior Projects – Theater Capstone 2026 \nSenior Capstone is a quarter long\, process-driven project required for graduation by the Perpich Theater Program. Seniors execute and thoroughly document a sustained project of their own design over the course of 4th quarter. Projects may be connected to creative collaborative production and may take the form of\, but are not limited to: a research paper\, creation of an original work – play\, movement\, cabaret\, costume\, set design\, voice over\, sound score\, etc. This serves as the “capstone” Perpich experience\, bringing together two years of coursework and productions in theater arts and musical theater\, and preparing students for life and work after departing Perpich Arts High School. Instructors Tory Peterson and Kevin Hohlstein serve as resources in the planning stages\, advise on the progress of the project\, and evaluate its effectiveness and quality. \nEach Senior is allotted 10 minutes to use however they choose to develop their Capstone Project. When working with other Seniors\, their time can be pooled together to showcase work. Juniors are cast as needed in certain Capstones. Each Senior is given a Community Mentor\, a professional in the field that supports Senior Capstone work\, from theater directors\, performers\, costume design\, voice talent\, and animators. \nThe evening will be made up of solo performances and one short play. \nPerformances consist of: \n\nElsie Erickson (Musical Theater 2026) – an epistolary performance based on their middle school journals over COVID-19\nGwyn DeVillers (Musical Theater 2026) – an autobiographical solo performance\nAudrey Tuite (Musical Theater 2026) – an autobiographical piece about family & immigration\nNatalie Campbell (Musical Theater 2026) & Ruth Civettini (Musical Theater 2026) – “The Mercury and the Magic” Rolin Jones with music\nAilee Bartz (Musical Theater 2026) – Music\n\nKevin Werner Hohlstein is the professional theater mentor for all 2026 Theater Seniors. In his performing career\, Kevin has had the opportunity to be involved in many different styles of musical performing – from opera to musical theater to cabaret to pop to club singing. Prior to moving to the Twin Cities\, he had the opportunity to work with Eau Claire Children’s Theater and Fanny Hill Dinner Theater while completing his coursework for his degree. Upon moving to the Cities\, he performed with many companies\, including Chanhassen Dinner Theater and the Minnesota Opera. Over the past few years\, Kevin is most often seen performing cabaret in both solo performances and in a duo appearing in many venues across the metro. \nOn the production side\, Kevin has directed for New Breath Productions\, Ashland Productions\, McNally Smith College of Music\, wrote and directed for Minnesota PerformDance and McNally Smith College of Music and has also worked with many companies across the Twin Cities metro and in western Wisconsin as choreographer and music director – including McNally Smith College of Music\, Eight Ball Productions\, Ashland Productions\, and Heritage Theater. He is proud to be one of the creators of Pop Up Musical\, a show that had its start at the Fringe Festival in 2012 and was presented in venues in the Twin Cities and western Wisconsin. DESCRIPTION:Perpich Center for Arts Education would like to invite you to a meeting about dance and theater teacher licensing. Perpich Center\, MDE\, and PELSB are preparing for future rulemaking regarding the teaching licensure standards in the arts—dance\, media arts\, music\, theater\, and visual arts. Reviewing these requirements for adequate reflection of the evolving needs of K-12 students\, schools\, and communities is an important undertaking. This process presents a great opportunity for input from the field\, and the results of this process will have an impact on the future of arts education in our state. Moving forward\, your input and involvement are crucial to ensure a successful outcome. \nThere are two info sessions available for dance and theater: \n\nTuesday\, September 23 from 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.\, or\nWednesday\, October 1 from 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.\n\n\n\nREGISTRATION HERE \n\nOther Details: \n\nWhat: We will share the steering committee recommendations and opportunities for participation and feedback. We will explain the steps taken so far and outline the next courses of action. There will also be time for asking clarifying questions. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE \nThursday\, August 14\, 2025 (9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.) \nDESCRIPTION:\nWe’ve heard from several teachers across Minnesota that they are ready to develop or refine lessons through an arts integration lens but could use a bit of experienced support. Might this include teachers from your school district? \nThis summer we have two opportunities for workshopping your arts integration ideas—Thursday\, June 12 and Thursday\, August 14. These days will begin with an introduction to our arts integration continuum and examples of integrated lessons\, but then the majority of each day will be supported work time. Bring your ideas\, teaching resources\, and one or more colleagues to Perpich Center for either or both days. Here’s a great opportunity to get a head start on lesson planning for the new school year! Participants are strongly encouraged to attend as a team: arts educator + non-arts/classroom educator(s). \nLOCATION:\nPerpich Center for Arts Education – Gaia Building\n6125 Olson Memorial Highway\nGolden Valley\, MN 55422 \nOnce you arrive to campus\, follow the road around to the left and past the soccer field. The Gaia Building is the 2-story white building back by the woods. Enter through the doors at the top of the parking lot. \nDETAILS: \n\nThere is no cost to participate in these work days.\nLunch is provided.\nEach person must complete the registration and with that\, participants are strongly encouraged to attend as a team: arts educator + non-arts/classroom educator(s).\nA clock hours form for 6 hours will be provided following each day.\nThe facilitator for these work days is Wendy Barden\, Director of the Professional Development and Resource Programs at Perpich Center.

DESCRIPTION:Are you new to your role and/or ready to gain a deeper understanding of the newest Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards in the Arts? The Minnesota legislature set the 2023-2024 school year as the implementation date of the new Arts standards. And\, effective August 1\, 2024\, Minn. Statute requires use of these standards in K-12 arts classes — there is no longer the option of basing curriculum on locally-developed standards. \nThis 1-hour seminar is the perfect opportunity for school leaders (and arts educators) to: \n\n\nLearn more about the Minnesota K-12 Arts standards and benchmarks\, and\nCollect resources to support the work of music\, visual arts\, media arts\, dance\, and theater teachers in standards implementation.\n\nREGISTER HERE \nINTENDED PARTICIPANTS: This seminar is intended for K-12 school leaders (and arts educators). \nFACILITATOR: The presenter is Dr. Wendy Barden\, Director of Professional Development and Resource Programs at Perpich Center for Arts Education. \nDATES AND TIMES: This session is offered three times.
