DESCRIPTION:In January – March 2026\, Perpich Center for Arts Education is hosting our 5th annual series of virtual sessions on topics required for renewal of Tier 3 and Tier 4 licenses in Minnesota. This year’s series addresses SIX of the required topics and each topic is offered twice. Examples of the strategies shared will come from arts classrooms but all educators are welcome! \nREADING TEXT IN ARTS CLASSES \nAll teachers in the school share a responsibility for helping students to both learn to read and read to learn. Through an arts lens\, examine four components of reading—phonemic awareness\, word-recognition skills\, vocabulary instruction\, and reading comprehension. This session addresses the topic of Reading Preparation.\nOffered on: Tuesday\, January 20 (4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.) and repeated Thursday\, February 19 (4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.) \nREGISTER HERE \nMORE DETAILS:  \n\nThese are online/virtual sessions. Examples of the strategies shared will come from arts classrooms but all educators are welcome! \nLEARNING FROM OJIBWE AUTHORS & ILLUSTRATORS\nIn video interviews\, four Ojibwe authors/illustrators share their work and provide a window into their culture and history: Thomas Peacock (Fond du Lac)\, Marcie Rendon (White Earth)\, Jonathan Thunder (Red Lake)\, and Anton Treuer (Leech Lake). Allison Waukau (Menominee/Navajo) also offers insights for selecting Native literature to bring into your teaching. We’ll discuss some of the more common conditions instructors may encounter and how to best support students. This session addresses the topic of Key Warning Signs for Mental Illness.
