DESCRIPTION:Now in it’s third season\, the Elementary Art Cohort is a professional development experience designed for new teachers\, classroom generalists who are teaching their own art\, and Tier 1 and Tier 2 teachers who are new to teaching\, as well as elementary visual arts specialists who want to deepen their practice. Participants will engage in collaborative learning with other educators committed to advancing artistic thinking and creative literacy in elementary learners. Whether you are an experienced art educator refining your approach or a classroom teacher integrating the arts into your curriculum\, this cohort will support your growth with structure\, flexibility\, and inspiration. \nOver the course of the year\, participants will engage with a cycle of learning that centers on big ideas\, artistic inquiry\, studio experimentation\, and reflection. The work is grounded in frameworks such as the Minnesota Academic Standards in the Arts\, the Studio Habits of Mind\, and concept-based curriculum and instruction. DESCRIPTION:Senior Capstone Exhibition 2026 \nCapstone gives artists of both Visual Arts and Media Arts the opportunity to devote themselves to a long term\, sustained\, multi-week project with the goal of showcasing individual and personal artistic endeavors including skill development\, refined techniques\, medium explorations\, and overall risk taking that highlights students interests and growth. The Capstone Gallery Exhibition is entirely student-driven\, beginning with original concept brainstorming; stamina building as a studio artist in creating and critiquing artwork; collaborating with visiting designer to create marketing materials; repairing\, prepping\, and laying out their physical gallery space; installing work; marketing; committee duties for opening night; and removing and repairing of individual exhibition space. \nWe hope you can join us! \nTICKET RESERVATION LINK

DESCRIPTION:TICKET RESERVATION LINK \nNew Horizons \nThe exhibition\, “New Horizons”\, will feature work made during the 1st Quarter by every studio arts student at Perpich. The artwork is made for classroom assignments and showcases the range within the Perpich studio arts curriculum. \nDuring the exhibition\, a media screening will be presented in the Performance Hall at 6:00 p.m. \n“New Horizons” is a multi-disciplinary art exhibition featuring work created in the first quarter of this year by new and returning Perpich students. First-year students are in the process of developing new skills and learning about what it means to make artwork consistently. Returning students are getting back into the habit of making work and honing their vision. The exhibition represents the beginning of a year-long artistic journey. Reviewing these requirements for adequate reflection of the evolving needs of K-12 students\, schools\, and communities is an important undertaking. This process presents a great opportunity for input from the field\, and the results of this process will have an impact on the future of arts education in our state. DESCRIPTION:RESERVE YOUR FREE TICKETS HERE \nReflections \nThe show will feature artwork created over the summer by Perpich Visual Arts and Media Arts students in response to various prompts covering themes of inner and outer self portraiture\, how the student feels about their future\, journaling\, and memory. \nA media screening is scheduled in the Performance Hall at 6:00 p.m. \nThe Dance department will participate with site-specific performances at 5:15 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. The performances are self portrait miniatures inspired by identity and the children’s book “Where We Come From” by Diane Wilson\, Sun Yung Shin\, Shannon Gibney\, and John Coy. \nExhibition Opening\nThursday\, September 11th\n5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.\nPerpich Arts High School\n \nPlease join us!

Might this include teachers from your school district? \nThis summer we have two opportunities for workshopping your arts integration ideas—Thursday\, June 12 and Thursday\, August 14. These days will begin with an introduction to our arts integration continuum and examples of integrated lessons\, but then the majority of each day will be supported work time. Bring your ideas\, teaching resources\, and one or more colleagues to Perpich Center for either or both days. Here’s a great opportunity to get a head start on lesson planning for the new school year! DESCRIPTION:RESERVE YOUR FREE TICKETS HERE \nMaybe the Art (Show) was the Friends We Made Along the Way \nPerpich Arts High School Studio Arts Department presents: Junior Curriculum Exhibition “Maybe the Art (Show) was the Friends We Made Along the Way” \nThe exhibition includes artwork created in Perpich art classes during Quarters 3 and 4 by members of the Class of 2026 and features animation\, video art\, drawings\, paintings\, darkroom-based analog & digital photography\, prints\, sculpture\, and digital art. The students selected one piece of artwork that they were proud of or they felt represented them well to be displayed for the exhibition. \nA media screening is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in the Performance Hall. The show will include work from Media Arts and Visual Arts students. \nExhibition Opening\nThursday\, May 8th\n5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.\nPerpich Arts High School\n \nCurrently on display in the Basta Gallery:\nPerpich Behind the Scenes\nThis exhibition is a result of a month-long project in which each Media Arts student was paired with a willing Perpich staff member to create a series of photographs using 35mm cameras. Students interviewed their subject to get to know more about them and what they do\, at Perpich and beyond. The photographs give us a glimpse inside the world of the subjects and also reflect the style of each student artist.

For her writing\, she has received awards from the Minnesota State Arts Board and Southwest Minnesota Arts Council. Teresa’s true passion is digging in her garden that overlooks the Mni Sota River valley and feeding friends and family. \nRecent Books by Teresa Peterson: \n\nPerennial Ceremony: Lessons and Gifts from a Dakota Garden (2024) – prose\, poetry\, and recipes guiding us through the Dakota seasons and lessons from Teresa’s life as a gardener\, gatherer\, and lover of the land\nVoices from Pejuhutazizi: Dakota Stories and Storytellers (2022)\, written with her uncle\, Walter “Super” LaBatte Jr. – stories shared through five generations of their family; selected by the Native American One Read by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community’s Understand Native Minnesota campaign\nGrasshopper Girl (2022) – this story includes a Dakota tale of Uŋktomi (spider)\, one of the trickster stories Teresa’s mother heard growing up; highly recommended by American Indians in Children’s Literature (AICL) and featured as one of Nick Jr.’s children’s books to celebrate Native American Heritage Month\n\nThe first 40 people attending this event will receive a free book. \nWe look forward to talking with Teresa Peterson about her work and how K-12 educators can bring the experiences she writes about into their classrooms! \nDETAILS: \n\nThere is no cost to attend the Native Authors series.\nLight snacks will be provided.\nA clock hours form will be available following the session.

DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE \nDATE AND TIME: Tuesday\, March 11\, 2025 (5:15 – 6:30 pm) \nLOCATION:\nPerpich Center for Arts Education – Main Building\n6125 Olson Memorial Highway\nGolden Valley\, MN 55422 \nABOUT THIS EVENT: We are excited to host a series of guest speakers specifically designed to introduce K-12 educators and librarians to books by Dakota and Ojibwe authors and illustrators. Each gathering features an interview and Q&A with the guest presenter and time in the Perpich Library to peruse our extensive collection of books by Native authors. \nTuesday\, March 11\, our guest is Kim Sigafus (White Earth Nation)\, an internationally-published\, award-winning author and speaker. “Bekaadiziikwe” is her Ojibwa name\, meaning “Quiet Woman”. Kim writes in many genres including Native American fiction\, non-fiction\, YA\, and children’s books. She’s written plays that have been produced\, too. Kim also enjoys sharing her culture with others. She travels throughout the United States doing Native programs for schools and libraries\, and has presented at conferences and museums including the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry. \nSome of the books by Kim Sigafus: \n\nNative Writers\, Voices of Power\nNative Elders\, Sharing Their Wisdom\nNowhere to Hide\nAutumn’s Dawn\nFinding Grace\nWhisper to the Sky\nYesterday’s Rain\nA Quiet Storm\n\nThe first 40 people attending this event will receive a free book. \nWe look forward to talking with Kim Sigafus about her work and how K-12 educators can bring her experiences into their classrooms! \nDETAILS: \n\nThere is no cost to attend the Native Authors series.\nLight snacks will be provided.\nA clock hours form will be available following the session.
