Choose the date and option that works best for you. \nSUPPORTING STUDENT ENGAGEMENT/PBIS IN ARTS CLASSES – Related to Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies (PBIS)\, this session focuses on nurturing a supportive classroom community\, the impact of adult decisions on community\, and resulting student engagement in arts classes. One-hour sessions: Wednesday\, January 22 (5:20 p.m. – 6:20 p.m.) or Thursday\, February 6 (4:15 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.). DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE \nDATE AND TIME: Tuesday\, February 4\, 2025 (5:15 – 6:30 p.m.) \nLOCATION:\nPerpich Center for Arts Education – Main Building\n6125 Olson Memorial Highway\nGolden Valley\, MN 55422 \nABOUT THIS EVENT: We are excited to host a series of guest speakers specifically designed to introduce K-12 educators and librarians to books by Dakota and Ojibwe authors and illustrators. Each gathering features an interview and Q&A with the guest presenter and time in the Perpich Library to peruse our extensive collection of books by Native authors. \nTuesday\, February 4\, our guest is Sam Zimmerman\, a direct descendant of the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa (Ojibwe). Sam is in a unique position to connect his art and K-12 education\, having worked more than 20 years as a special education teacher and school administrator. \nSam’s art continues the Anishinaabe tradition of storytelling with themes of environmental stewardship and conservation. His first book\, Following My Spirit Home\, is a collection of paintings and stories from his first year back in Minnesota after living on the East Coast. His artwork is held in private collections in the United States and abroad and in public installations in the Chik Wauk Museum and Nature Center\, Voyageur National Park\, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee\, and the communities of Duluth and Grand Marais. Sam has received grant awards from the Minnesota State Arts Board\, Arrowhead Regional Arts Council\, Northland Foundation Maada’ookiing\, and Duluth Superior Community Foundation. \nThe first 40 people attending this event will receive a copy of How the Birds Got their Songs (2024) by Travis Zimmerman\, illustrated by Sam Zimmerman. \nDETAILS: \n\nThere is no cost to attend the Native Authors series.\nLight snacks will be provided.\nA clock hours form will be available following the session.\nShortly after February 4\, a video recording of the interview will be posted on the Perpich Center’s Native Authors & Artists webpage.

DESCRIPTION:TICKET RESERVATION LINK \nSuper Awesome Sick Nasty Art Show Curricular Exhibition \nThe exhibition will feature work made during the 2nd Quarter by every studio arts student at Perpich. The artwork is made for classroom assignments and showcases the range within the Perpich studio arts curriculum. Works include prints\, sculptures\, photography\, cinematography\, animation\, drawings\, paintings\, etc. \nDuring the exhibition\, a media screening will be presented in the Performance Hall at 5:30 p.m. \nThe evening also includes “Beyond the Classroom Exhibition” which features artwork from students produced on their own time\, outside the classroom. It offers viewers a glimpse into the young artists’ personal interests. \nWe hope you can join us!

Returning students are getting back into the habit of making work and honing their vision. New Moon represents the beginning of a year-long artistic journey. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE\n\n\nGrant Writing 101 for Educators in the Arts \n\n\nDESCRIPTION: Looking for $$ to support your arts projects and programs? Grants can be an excellent source of revenue\, but where do you find them? How do you write them? And what else do you need to know to make this stream of funding worthwhile? In this workshop\, we’ll cover the basic who\, what\, where\, when\, why\, and how of grant writing. We’ll also identify key sources and tools for finding more\, as well as breaking down the specific and unique writing style required for grants. Participants will have plenty of time for questions! His father is a professor of their language\, Ojibwe\, at a local college\, so they have to be there. But Ezra hates the dirty\, polluted snow around them. He hates being away from the rez at Nigigoonsiminikaaning First Nation. And he hates the local bully in his neighborhood\, Matt Schroeder\, who terrorizes Ezra and his friend Nora George. \nEzra gets into a terrible fight with Matt at school defending Nora\, and that same night\, Matt’s house burns down. Instantly\, Ezra becomes a prime suspect. Knowing he won’t get a fair deal\, and knowing his innocence\, Ezra’s family sends him away to run traplines with his grandfather in a remote part of Canada\, while the investigation is ongoing. But the Schroeders are looking for him… \nThis is both a taut thriller and a raw\, tender coming-of-age story\, about one Ojibwe boy learning to love himself through the love of his family around him. DESCRIPTION:Perpich Arts High School Studio Arts Department Presents: Junior Curriculum Exhibition “Emerging” \nThe exhibition includes artwork created in Perpich art classes during Quarters 3 and 4 by members of the Class of 2025 and features animation\, video art\, drawings\, paintings\, darkroom-based analog & digital photography\, prints\, sculpture\, and digital art. The students selected two pieces of artwork that they were proud of or they felt represented them well to be displayed for the exhibition. \nA media screening is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. in the Performance Hall. The show will include work from Media and Visual students. \nWhile you’re on campus\, be sure to visit the Basta Gallery for “The Portrait” exhibition. The still images will be shown on screen in the Performance Hall during the Media Screening and will be displayed as framed\, printed photographs in the Basta Gallery until next Fall. For this studio-based photography class in the Media Arts program at Perpich Arts High School\, students are provided with digital SLR cameras and given access to the Media Arts photo studio. Over the course of the 3rd academic quarter\, photographers study the fundamental relationship between photographer\, subject\, and environment. Emphasis is placed on producing technically proficient and creative photographs through professional lighting\, backgrounds\, hair & makeup\, props\, and wardrobe styling. Every teacher—experienced or new to the field—can struggle with a high pressure workplace\, multiple competing tasks\, challenging student behavior\, lack of support\, and/or contradictory leadership. In this seminar\, we will identify these parts of our job\, how it makes us feel\, and identify new ways to handle these sources of burnout. \nPRESENTER:\nAmy Kienberger has a B.S. in Dance Education and Business Education from the University of Illinois. She also earned a M.Ed. in Technology Integration from St. Catherine University and a M.Ed. in Professional Studies in Arts Education from the University of Minnesota. In 2019\, Amy started a new dance program at Farmington High School where\, for 10 years\, she has taught business classes\, choreographed theater productions\, and is an active member of the Equity Leadership Team. He has a B.A. from Princeton University and a M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. Treuer is a member of the governing boards for the Minnesota State Historical Society and Waadookodaading Objiwe Language Institute and has received many prestigious awards and fellowships\, including ones from the American Philosophical Society\, the National Endowment for the Humanities\, the National Science Foundation\, the MacArthur Foundation\, the Bush Foundation\, the First Nations Development Institute\, and the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation. In 2018\, he was named Guardian of Culture and Lifeways and recipient of the Pathfinder Award by the Association of Tribal Archives\, Libraries\, and Museums. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE \nBack by popular demand! Announcing our 2024 schedule of virtual seminars that address four of the topics required for relicensure—and through an arts lens. Highlighted examples are taken from dance\, theater\, music\, and media and visual arts classrooms. Each seminar is one hour in length and two topics are addressed on each date. Attend one or both seminars on any given date. Each seminar is repeated monthly\, January through April. Clock hour forms are provided. \nSupporting Student Engagement in Arts Classes\nRelated to Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies (PBIS)\, this session focuses on nurturing a supportive classroom community\, the impact of adult decisions on community\, and resulting student engagement in arts classes. Offered January 22 at 4:10 p.m.\, February 29 at 4:10 p.m.\, March 21 at 5:15 p.m.\, April 8 at 5:15 p.m. \nMORE DETAILS: \n\nA Zoom link will be sent to participants prior to each seminar.\nSessions will NOT be recorded for later viewing.\nParticipants are encouraged to engage fully with video (cameras on) if at all possible.\nParticipants will complete a brief evaluation form to receive the clock hour certificate(s).\nThere is no cost to participate.
