SUMMARY:PERPICH ARTS HIGH SCHOOL STUDIO ARTS PRESENTS "THE FIRST LAST HURRAH: JUNIOR EXHIBITION"
DESCRIPTION:Perpich Arts High School Studio Arts Department presents “The First Last Hurrah: Junior Exhibition” \nThe exhibition includes artwork created in Perpich art classes this year by members of the Class of 2023 and features animation\, video art\, drawings\, paintings\, prints\, sculpture\, digital art\, and jewelry. The students selected two pieces of artwork that they were proud of or they felt represented them well to be displayed on the gallery walls. \nRun dates: May 12th – September 2nd\, 2022 \n  \nArtist Statement: \nWhat makes juniors juniors? Is it the fact that we are in our eleventh year\, or is it the untold and endless possibilities for our futures? \nTake a moment to reminisce\, because that is the beauty of “Our First Last Hurrah”. We are taking our first big step forward\, and yes\, this isn’t our ending\, but it will always stand as the beginning to an end. \nOur journey at this school was full of new beginnings\, introducing who we are as artists and figuring out how to move through this new space. Adjusting and understanding came next. Realizing hidden skills\, expressing one’s freedom in creating\, and pushing what is possible all accompanied us through this chapter of our lives. \nOur works do not define our progress\, but instead pave the way for the progression and personality we as artists will achieve. \nSo walk through all the hours of development and creativity our junior class has to offer. Relax\, and enjoy the show. \n  \nRESERVE TICKETS HERE \nWe are following COVID protocols. Attendees must reserve a ticket. \nCOVID-19 Conditions: \n\nAll attendees are required to wear a mask.\nAll attendees need to complete the Visitor Health Screening Questionnaire before attending.\nSocial distancing will be observed between parties.

SUMMARY:BOOK STUDY: PORTRAITS OF MUSIC EDUCATION AND SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING: TEACHING MUSIC WITH HEART
DESCRIPTION:This book showcases the inspiring stories and innovative ideas of music educators who are implementing Social Emotional Learning (SEL) instruction with intentionality in their classrooms at the elementary\, middle\, and high school levels. These teachers share their real-world challenges and triumphs with SEL instruction\, along with many tips\, activities\, lesson plans\, and suggestions for embedding SEL in a way that is musical\, intentional\, and meaningful. Importantly\, Portraits of Music Education and Social Emotional Learning approaches SEL from a culturally relevant and equitable lens\, accounting for the ways in which SEL instruction interacts with culture\, race\, background\, and uniqueness\, therefore making it a powerful tool for embracing social justice and student empowerment. At its core\, SEL gives students the ability to have difficult conversations\, cope with stress\, and navigate challenges. SUMMARY:MAKING SENSE: AN INVITATION TO THE BODY
DESCRIPTION:Making Sense: An Invitation to the Body\nA One-day Lab/Sharing of Practices for Theater Directors and Educators \nREGISTER HERE \nDATE AND TIME: Wednesday\, June 29\, 2022\, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. \nTARGET AUDIENCE: K-12 and College/University Theater Educators and Directors \nDESCRIPTION: This one-day workshop will extend the conversations of the New and Devised Work Collaborative into shared practices. The focus of the day will be on building theater practices\, rituals\, and processes that are deeply and authentically engaging of the body\, and that help us restore and reconnect with ourselves and one another. This is a time for reconnection and rejuvenation! \nLOCATION:  \nPerpich Center for Arts Education\n6125 Olson Memorial Hwy\nGolden Valley\, MN 55422\n*we will meet in the dance studio* \nDETAILS: \n\nThe workshop co-conveners are Dr. Stephanie Lein Walseth\, Theater Education Specialist in Professional Development and Resource Programs at Perpich Center for Arts Education and Dana McConnell\, Theater Educator and Director at St. Charles High School\, St. Mary’s University\, and beyond.\nPresenters may also include members of the New and Devised Work Collaborative – comprised of Theater Educators and Directors across the state of Minnesota and special guests.\nThere is no cost for this workshop and 6 CEU hours are earned.\nLunch and snacks will be provided – please note any dietary restrictions in the registration form.\nQuestions or comments?
And while each teacher presents their unique approach to SEL\, they come to the same conclusion: SEL is critical to the success of their students and programs. \nGUEST FACILITATORS: \n\nKourtney Ryan teaches general music in grades 1-5 at Valentine Hills Elementary School in the Mounds View School District.
