SUMMARY:PERPICH DANCE STUDENTS PRESENT "WORKS IN PANDEMIC"
DESCRIPTION:The Perpich Dance Program will perform on May 27 with a video premiere via the Perpich Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/perpichcenter. The event features work by Perpich dance students and guest artist\, Gabby Abram\, Perpich Class of 2015. \nSeven dancers from across Minnesota came together in August\, 2020. They became the Perpich Dance Company 20-21. As in other years\, they worked to hone their physical skills\, create new works\, and perform the dances of their peers and guest artists. But this year\, they were together in the studio for only seven weeks before filming WIP – Works in Pandemic. In that short amount of time\, they have bonded as a group and blossomed as artists. \nIn their words\, dance is a combination of artistry and athleticism\, a way to express yourself in movement\, art in movement\, free space for thought\, a break from reality\, and a way to be their true selves.

SUMMARY:MARGINALIZED VOICES IN MUSIC EDUCATION
DESCRIPTION:MARGINALIZED VOICES IN MUSIC EDUCATION\, Brent C. Talbot\, ed. (Routledge\, 2018). \nMARGINALIZED VOICES IN MUSIC EDUCATION explores the American culture of music teaching and learning by looking at marginalization and privilege in music education as a means to critique prevailing assumptions and paradigms. In ten essays\, authors set out to expand notions of who we believe we are as music educators and who we want to become. This book is a collection of perspectives by some of the leading and emerging thinkers in the profession. It identifies cases of individuals or groups who have experienced marginalization and shares diverse stories in a struggle for inclusion. Through the telling of these stories\, the authors hope to recast music education as fertile ground for transformation\, experimentation\, and renewal. \nWHAT: You are invited to join other music educators to read and study Talbot’s popular book. \nOUTCOMES: Through participation in this book study\, participants will: \n\nIncrease understanding of access and power in music education\nConsider if\, or how\, music education allows us to actually teach “music for all”\nDevelop stronger connections with other music educators across the state.\n\nWHO: All Minnesota music educators are welcome. Registration is limited to 16. \nFACILITATOR: Wendy Barden\, Music Education Specialist in Professional Development and Resource Programs at Perpich Center for Arts Education. \nSCHEDULE OF VIRTUAL MEETINGS: \n\nNow – Secure your copy of MARGINALIZED VOICES IN MUSIC EDUCATION\, Brent C.
