SUMMARY:2026-2027 ELEMENTARY VISUAL ARTS COHORT
DESCRIPTION:Build a foundation in teaching elementary art. Sign up for Perpich’s Elementary Visual Arts Cohort! \nThis cohort is for new elementary art teachers\, Tier 1 and Tier 2 teachers without formal art pedagogy preparation\, and classroom generalists who teach visual arts. \nAbout the Cohort\nThe Elementary Visual Arts Cohort is a professional development experience where\, over the course of the year\, participants will engage in collaborative learning with other educators committed to advancing artistic thinking and creative literacy in elementary learners. Teaching elementary art is more than finding engaging projects. This cohort helps educators develop a stronger foundation in elementary art pedagogy\, curriculum design\, artistic literacy\, instruction\, and assessment. Participants will explore how concepts\, standards\, skills\, creative processes\, and assessment can work together to create meaningful and developmentally appropriate art learning. \nAcross three sessions\, teachers will examine their existing practice\, develop and refine curriculum\, and collaborate with colleagues while building practical strategies they can use immediately in the elementary art room. Participants will engage with a cycle of learning that centers on big ideas\, artistic inquiry\, studio experimentation\, and reflection. The work is grounded in frameworks such as the Minnesota Academic Standards in the Arts\, the Studio Habits of Mind\, and concept-based curriculum and instruction. Teachers will walk away with usable\, classroom-ready curriculum units\, strategies for formative and summative assessment\, and a renewed understanding of how artistic thinking supports deep learning across content areas. \nREGISTRATION FORM \nCohort Members Can Expect: \n\nHands-on media experiences across 2D\, 3D\, digital\, and mixed media\nCurriculum development support: Create\, revise\, or refine a concept-based unit aligned to MN Academic Standards in the Arts\nProfessional dialogue with fellow educators through peer feedback and collaboration protocols\nResources and exemplars to take directly into your classroom practice\nPersonalized feedback and coaching as you implement new strategies and approaches\n\nThis Cohort is Ideal For: \n\nK–5 visual arts specialists\nClassroom teachers integrating visual arts\nArts Integration Coordinators\nEarly-career\, Tier 1\, and Tier 2 teachers seeking a foundation for strong curriculum and assessment design\n\nRequirements to Join the Cohort: \n\nA teacher (or desire to teach) of visual arts within the generalist’s classroom or new to the visual arts classroom at the elementary level\nAbility and commitment to attend all three in-person sessions at Perpich Center for Arts Education in Golden Valley\nAbility to collaborate and engage in hands-on visual arts experiences\n\nCohort Meeting Dates (three all day workshops):\nThe Elementary Visual Arts Cohort will meet in person at Perpich Center for Arts Education three times throughout the 2026-2027 academic year. SUMMARY:2026-2027 MEDIA ARTS INTRODUCTION COHORT
DESCRIPTION:Build a foundation in teaching media arts. Register for Perpich’s Media Arts Introduction Cohort!  \nAbout the Cohort\nThe Media Arts Introduction Cohort is a year-long\, hands-on\, idea-rich professional learning community designed to equip teachers with the foundational skills\, tools\, and curriculum structures needed to teach media arts with confidence and clarity. Whether you are a visual arts teacher ready to branch into digital forms\, a tech-savvy educator seeking more creative applications\, or entirely new to media arts—this cohort meets you where you are. \nThis cohort explores the concepts\, creative processes\, artistic thinking\, media literacy\, curriculum design\, and assessment practices that support meaningful media arts education. Teachers will move beyond technology-driven projects to consider the learning behind the making: What should students understand? What artistic decisions should they make? How can media become a vehicle for creative thinking\, communication\, and expression? \nParticipants will build conceptual and technical fluency across digital photography\, video\, animation\, and graphic design. The work is grounded in concept-based curriculum and instruction (CBCI)\, inquiry-based practices\, and creative production cycles that help students develop voice\, critical thinking\, and artistic literacy. Over the course of the year\, participants will design\, revise\, or refine classroom-ready units aligned to the National Core Arts Standards (NCAS) or local standards\, while engaging with peer critique protocols\, artist case studies\, and adaptable project structures. \nThis is not a “sit and get” PD — it’s active\, collaborative\, and immediately relevant to classroom practice. \nREGISTRATION FORM \nThis Cohort is Ideal For:\nEducators who are new to media arts or ready to strengthen their curricular and pedagogical foundation. What does it mean to teach media arts as an artistic discipline\, rather than simply teach students how to use technology? This program offers an exciting and immersive learning experience that will empower you to incorporate media arts into your school. \nSign up now and unlock a world of creativity and innovation for your students!
