SUMMARY:EXPLORING 3D ASSESSMENT IN THE ARTS
DESCRIPTION:Assessment is gathering evidence of individual student achievement. While this might be challenging in an arts classroom for several reasons\, it is still possible! During this hour-long workshop\, we’ll explore basic strategies and tools that will assist your current teaching situation and offer you what might be a “best fit” depending on the artistic process you’re working in. Most importantly\, each tool is intended for three critical purposes—student reflection\, assessment\, and teacher feedback. Take away practical examples ready to use or adapt for your arts classes! \nINTENDED AUDIENCE: This virtual session is intended for K-12 educators in dance\, music\, theater\, visual\, or media arts. \nDATES AND TIMES: This session is offered twice. Choose to attend the session most convenient for you! \n\nThursday\, October 29 (4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.)\nWednesday\, November 11 (4:15 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.)\n\nMORE DETAILS: \n\nA Zoom link will be sent to registered participants prior to the session.\nThere is no cost to participate.\nA form for one clock hour will be available following the session.\nThe presenter for this session is Dr. Wendy Barden\, Director of Professional Development and Resource Programs.\n\n\nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:COMPREHENSIVE ARTS PLANNING PROGRAM (CAPP) - APPLICATION INFORMATIONAL SESSION
DESCRIPTION:Perpich Center for Arts Education is hosting four informational sessions to provide information and answer questions about the upcoming 2027-2029 Comprehensive Arts Planning Program (CAPP) application round. These sessions will provide a general outline of the program and application process as well as leave ample time for participant questions and answers. \nThe Minnesota Comprehensive Arts Planning Program (CAPP) is a program of Perpich Center for Arts Education. The purpose of this legislatively-funded program is to support and assist a local school district or charter school’s arts planning team in creating a district-wide\, three-year strategic arts plan. This plan addresses arts education policies\, programs and partnerships for students in the district and community. \nREGISTER HERE FOR THE INFORMATIONAL SESSION \nLOCATION: Virtual – The link to join each session will be sent to participants via email the day before the meeting. \nDuring the 2027-2029 program\, there will be two cohorts\, a SCHOOL DISTRICT COHORT and a CHARTER SCHOOL COHORT. \nIf you are applying for the SCHOOL DISTRICT COHORT\, the 2027-2029 CAPP application must concentrate on a single arts area (dance\, music\, theater\, or visual arts/media arts) and must address programming in that arts area for grades Kindergarten-12. A school district may complete a second application for a second arts area in the CAPP program. \nIf you are applying for the CHARTER SCHOOL COHORT\, the 2027-2029 CAPP application must include all arts areas offered at your school across all grade levels. This program is a school-wide initiative Kindergarten through 12th grade. (If your charter school serves K-8\, K-5\, 6-12\, or 9-12 students\, it is eligible as well.) \nPlease note: Due to the regulations of the CAPP application process\, questions about the application cannot be answered after the official application opens on Monday\, December 14\, 2026. \nAfter Monday\, December 14\, 2026\, questions will be answered through the Frequently Asked Questions system. Therefore we highly encourage school districts or charter schools to attend one of these sessions if they are interested in applying. \nQuestions or comments? SUMMARY:2026-2027 MEDIA ARTS INTRODUCTION COHORT
DESCRIPTION:Build a foundation in teaching media arts. Register for Perpich’s Media Arts Introduction Cohort!  \nAbout the Cohort\nThe Media Arts Introduction Cohort is a year-long\, hands-on\, idea-rich professional learning community designed to equip teachers with the foundational skills\, tools\, and curriculum structures needed to teach media arts with confidence and clarity. Whether you are a visual arts teacher ready to branch into digital forms\, a tech-savvy educator seeking more creative applications\, or entirely new to media arts—this cohort meets you where you are. \nThis cohort explores the concepts\, creative processes\, artistic thinking\, media literacy\, curriculum design\, and assessment practices that support meaningful media arts education. Teachers will move beyond technology-driven projects to consider the learning behind the making: What should students understand? What artistic decisions should they make? How can media become a vehicle for creative thinking\, communication\, and expression? \nParticipants will build conceptual and technical fluency across digital photography\, video\, animation\, and graphic design. The work is grounded in concept-based curriculum and instruction (CBCI)\, inquiry-based practices\, and creative production cycles that help students develop voice\, critical thinking\, and artistic literacy. Over the course of the year\, participants will design\, revise\, or refine classroom-ready units aligned to the National Core Arts Standards (NCAS) or local standards\, while engaging with peer critique protocols\, artist case studies\, and adaptable project structures. \nThis is not a “sit and get” PD — it’s active\, collaborative\, and immediately relevant to classroom practice. \nREGISTRATION FORM \nThis Cohort is Ideal For:\nEducators who are new to media arts or ready to strengthen their curricular and pedagogical foundation. What does it mean to teach media arts as an artistic discipline\, rather than simply teach students how to use technology?
