INTRODUCING! MINNESOTA REFLECTIVE ARTIST AWARD FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS LAUNCH PARTY

September 30 @ 3:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Introducing! Minnesota Reflective Artist Award for High School Students

The Minnesota Reflective Artist Award is an opportunity to recognize accomplished student work in the arts; work that is also supported by reflective thinking.

What is the Minnesota Reflective Artist Award?

  • Candidates for the Minnesota Reflective Artist Award (MRAA) develop a portfolio of four selected products plus a culminating reflection.
  • The portfolio is completed over two consecutive years in high school (grades 10/11 or 11/12). One product is added to the portfolio each semester of those two years.
  • The four products come from students’ work in school across one or more arts areas—dance, theater, music, visual arts, media arts.
  • Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards in the Arts are inherently addressed in each project. One product is completed in each artistic process—Create, Respond, Perform or Present—and a fourth product is in the student’s choice of artistic processes. The Connect process must be part of every product.
  • Each product is accompanied by a journal that follows the progress of that work. Thoughts can be documented through writing, drawing, sketching, or audio recording.

What’s in it for STUDENTS who work towards the Minnesota Reflective Artist Award?

  • Recognition for their unique learning in the arts over two years.
  • The opportunity to deepen skills that transfer to college and career and a way to make their thinking visible. These skills could include goal setting, persistence, envisioning, reflecting, communicating, analyzing, evaluating, problem solving, considering various points of view, initiative, and/or working independently.
  • Engaging deeply in practices of the artistic field.
  • Better understanding of themselves as an artist, musician, dancer, actor, director, and more!
  • Tangible acknowledgement of their achievement such as a special graduation cord, certificate, and statement on their transcript.
