DETAILS:
Creating and sustaining a theater program in a small school can be a joy…and a challenge! There are so many bases to cover and it can be daunting and isolating, especially if you’re the only one in your school or district doing this work. And diving in to the One Act Play competition can be just as tough! Join us for a day with some veteran theater directors and educators, as they share expertise and lessons learned from their own experience! We’ll tackle topics such as:

  • Being a one-person-team for your theater program
  • How to put on a production without a team (or what to do instead so it is less stressful!)
  • Building or rebuilding a program from scratch (including building awareness, acceptance, participation, and the cultural capital of your program)
  • Recruiting and managing volunteers
  • Competing with sports and other activities for space, time, and attention
  • Funding Sources + Ideas: booster clubs, grant writing, and other ideas
  • Dealing with shoestring budgets
  • AND how to navigate the One Act Play competition, including the judging process

Through the process we’ll allow ample time for Q&A, and connect you to further resources! Let’s come together to break down the isolation we so often feel in this field, and to draw upon our collective wisdom and insights!
