Perpich Arts High School Literary Arts Department Presents “Running Into Yesterday” a Lit Reading

November 13, 2025

The Literary Arts Department of Perpich Arts High School presented “Running Into Yesterday” on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. Their first reading of the school year represented the culmination of months of work from new and returning writers. The writers shared poems, short pieces, stories, essays, and other types of writing.

In the Artist Statement, the students shared, “For the past year, the past has been uncomfortably present. Our reading will address the ways memory can collide with the present while shaping and obscuring our future. How do we know who we are without our memories? Can we know who we will become with them? Join us as we explore memory and identity, growth and pain.”

“Seems like however high I set my expectations, these writers exceed them every time,” said Kevin Lally, Literary Arts Instructor. “The reading was a smashing success. As I told the students, their work resonates beyond themselves, touching the lives and hearts of whoever hears them. Their soft vulnerability, fierce advocacy, their delicate blend of joy and sadness, all of them are producing deeply impressive work, which will only be more and more appreciated. I’m so grateful to them.”

“I had the privilege of being in their classroom just hours before the event,” said Rebecca Bullen, Perpich Arts High School Principal. “It was fulfilling and fun to see their process and be a part of their bantering, laughing, and fine-tuning pacing, delivery, and final word adjustments. They were excited, nervous, and so supportive of each other. These students are fantastic writers and remarkable humans, and it is a gift to share space with them. I was deeply moved by their work and experiencing their pieces filled with humor, wit, a bit of darkness, and reflections of emotional struggle and growth. Congratulations to Kevin Lally, Literary Arts Instructor, and the Literary Arts students for a powerful and inspiring evening.”

Congratulations to all involved with the Literary Arts reading!
