The Literary Arts Department of Perpich Arts High School presented their work at Magers & Quinn Booksellers on February 6. The Poetry Showcase and Short Works Reading featured new and selected works from our emerging writers.

Jae Blondo (Literary Arts 2024) said, “It was a very fun night. Definitely out of my comfort zone and different from past readings that I’ve done, but not in a bad way. I’m excited to do more off-campus readings.”

Magers & Quinn hosts a similar event with the MFA program at the University of Minnesota, where students read works in progress. Similar to that group, the Perpich event was an “exception to the rule” whereby Magers & Quinn prefers events that have a clear opportunity for book sales, such as an author reading from a recent title. “However we are happy to make that exception to offer a space for these students to have this experience of reading in public!” said Annie Metcalf, Marketing & Events Coordinator at Magers & Quinn.

Kevin Lally, Literary Arts Instructor, said, “Even knowing how talented and hard-working these writers are, I was still amazed at their poise, their vulnerability, and their extraordinary written work. It was so great to watch them receive some well-earned recognition.”

Congratulations to all the artists and to their instructors for a great event!
