Perpich Studio Arts Presents “Super Awesome Sick Nasty Art Show Curricular Exhibition” and “Beyond The Classroom Exhibition”

January 31, 2025

Perpich Studio Arts students presented multiple exhibitions on Thursday, January 30, 2025. The exhibitions are showing in the Upper Gallery, Lower Gallery, and Basta Gallery through February 21, 2025.

“Super Awesome Sick Nasty Art Show Curricular Exhibition” features artwork by every studio arts student at Perpich during their 2nd quarter. The artwork was made for classroom assignments and showcases the range within the Perpich studio arts curriculum. Students selected their favorite piece from one of their two arts classes. Works include prints, sculptures, photography, cinematography, animation, drawings, paintings, etc. Works are featured on the gallery walls as well as in a screening of cinema work in the Performance Hall on the first level during the gallery opening. In the exhibition statement, they state that the “chosen works were selected by the artists and show the range of mediums they’ve explored and particularly brave undertakings in scale, from large painted works on panels and banners and large digital prints to very fine, intimate etchings. The work is vibrant, bold, and shows a greater intention to infuse meaning and personal narrative into their creative choices.”

“Beyond the Classroom Exhibition” features artwork from students produced on their own time, outside the classroom. It offers viewers a glimpse into the young artists’ personal interests.

“It is spectacular to see the artistic and presentation growth between exhibitions,” said Kathryn D’Elia, Studio Arts Chair and Visual Arts Instructor. “This curricular show, the dark room photography in the Basta, and the Beyond the Classroom exhibition show an incredible range of work and a real sharpening of intention.”

The Darkroom Photography Exhibition in the Basta Gallery is an ongoing show of photographic work by Media Arts students. All prints were created on film cameras in Quarter 1 and Quarter 2. Many are silver gelatin darkroom prints and a few are digital prints created from scanned film negatives. See if you can spot the difference!

Congratulations to all the students and their instructors on a powerful and impressive exhibition!
