2023-2025 CAPP Cohort Kicks Off Second Year of Program

August 14, 2024

The Comprehensive Arts Planning Program (CAPP) is starting its second year of programming with the 2023-2025 CAPP cohort. Every two years, school districts and charter schools are eligible to apply to this state-funded program. The 2023-2025 CAPP cohort (Bluffview Montessori (Winona), Central Public Schools (Norwood Young America), Chisholm Public Schools, Duluth Public Schools, Hopkins Public Schools, MACCRAY Public Schools, St. Cloud Area School District, and Yellow Medicine East Schools kicked off its second year of the program with a day-long workshop on August 14th at Perpich Center for Arts Education.

CAPP Co-chairs from these eight school districts came together to celebrate the successes and accomplishments of their first year of programming. CAPP sites spent time in their first year establishing relationships with arts stakeholders, analyzing their arts programs, setting goals, and developing plans for the next three years. At the second year kick-off, CAPP Co-chairs analyzed their arts leadership qualities, reflected on their arts program planning in the past year, examined their ongoing understanding of the arts standards, and planned for the upcoming school year, taking their planning into attainable action for the 2024-2025 school year.

Many participants commented about the great benefits brought about from conversation and connection with each other through this workshop. One Co-chair commented, “As arts educators, we need one another. We are not alone!”

Another Co-chair commented, “Workshops and meetings online with Perpich are so inspiring and helpful to me. I look forward to future events this year to help bring the arts to our community!”

One of the fundamental principles of this program lies in its ability to bring together arts educators (and other arts stakeholders) from across a school district to plan with intentionality and practicality. On a larger scale, CAPP continues to foster relationship building for arts educators in their school district and with a larger peer network through the CAPP cohort of school districts across the state.

Every two years, school districts and charter schools are eligible to apply to this state-funded program. Applications for the 2025-2027 cohort will be available in December, 2024, with information sessions coming in November. Notably, the 2025-2027 cohort will be the 20th cohort since the inception of the program.
