Rebecca Bullen has been Principal of Perpich Arts High School since 2023 and has worked with Perpich Center for Arts Education since 2010. Throughout her tenure, she has held several key roles, including media arts teacher, arts education specialist, Chair of the Studio Arts Department, and Assistant Principal. Her leadership is deeply rooted in a passion for fostering creativity and self-expression, grounded in a commitment to equity, access, and community. She is dedicated to creating a learning environment where students grow not only as artists and creative thinkers, but as whole people, empowered to show up as their authentic selves. In the 2024–25 school year, she provided strategic and collaborative leadership in Perpich’s reaccreditation process, helping to ensure the continued excellence and recognition of the school’s arts and academic programs.
Before her work at Perpich, Bullen served as associate director, youth program co-director, producer, and instructor with TVbyGIRLS, a nonprofit organization where she designed and taught media arts curriculum to diverse youth across Minnesota. She also worked for seven years as a producer at Twin Cities Public Television (TPT), gaining extensive experience in media production and storytelling.
A dedicated arts education leader and practicing media artist, Bullen has led artist residencies in Minnesota K–12 schools and presented at numerous local and national conferences, including the Arts Educators of Minnesota, Arts Schools Network, TIES, the Religious Educators Association, and the National Arts Educators Conference. In recognition of her contributions to arts education, she received the Robert Rauschenberg Power of Art Award in 2012 and was selected as a member of the inaugural 2021–2022 cohort of Minnesota ASCD Emerging Leaders. She was also awarded the Arts & Cultural Education Leadership Certificate by Arts Schools Network and Creative Generation in 2022.
In 2024, Bullen joined the Board of Directors for the Arts Schools Network. She describes the experience as “an opportunity to collaborate with phenomenal leaders committed to the power of art, expression, and social justice,” and values the community’s shared work in supporting young artists as they tell meaningful stories, challenge assumptions, and foster empathy.
Bullen holds an Associate Degree from Russell Sage College (NY), a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and a K–12 Visual Arts Licensure from Concordia University–St. Paul. She also earned a Master of Leadership in Education and completed the K–12 Administrative Licensure Certificate in Organizational Leadership, Policy, and Development from the University of Minnesota, where she holds both her Principal and Superintendent licenses.
