CAPP Co-Chairs Kick Off Two-Year Program for 2023-2025

August 15, 2023

The Comprehensive Arts Planning Program (CAPP) launched the 2023-2025 CAPP cohort with a Kick-off Conference on Monday, August 14th. Sixteen arts specialists, classroom teachers, and administrators attended the event to commence this strategic planning program for arts education in their school community. The new cohort includes these eight participating charter schools and/or school districts: Bluffview Montessori (Winona), Central Public Schools, Chisholm Public Schools, Duluth Public Schools, Hopkins Public Schools, MACCRAY Public Schools, St. Cloud Area School District, and Yellow Medicine East Schools. CAPP provides assistance to selected Minnesota public school districts as they create and implement an arts education strategic plan.

CAPP Co-chairs gathered to start the two-year CAPP planning and implementation process which will involve forming new local CAPP committees at the school district level. The participants explored the programming planning model and started to analyze their current arts strengths and areas of needs. They discussed the qualities of a comprehensive arts education and visioned how that applies to their local school community. Participants also spent time connecting with other administrators and arts educators in the CAPP cohort.

Kristi Johnson, CAPP Specialist, will also lead strategic planning workshops in the districts with each CAPP committee. Johnson said, “It was very exciting to gather arts specialists, curriculum directors, and administrators from across the state to kick off a new round of strategic planning for arts education! Perpich Center is extremely pleased to work deeply with these eight school districts through CAPP.”
