Data + Arts Can Equal Success!

August 9, 2024

This month, arts educators from across the state convened to study a topic not usually associated with arts education—data. “Data-Driven Excellence: Enhancing Arts Curriculum, Assessment, and Program Advocacy” workshops were held on August 5th in Rochester and August 7th in Duluth. Sessions were led by Perpich Center’s Jeremy Holien and David DuBose from Gwinnett County Schools, Georgia. Participants explored how to tap into data to tell their arts education story, communicate student growth effectively, and integrate insights from brain science with arts instruction. The workshops offered practical strategies for curriculum development and assessment, emphasizing data-driven approaches to enhance learning outcomes and support arts programs.

Holien and DuBose provided guidance on using data for program advocacy and improvement, and facilitated opportunities for collaborative networking, action planning, and reflective practice. Attendees left equipped with actionable tools and a copy of “Your Brain on Art” by Susan Magsamen and Ivy Ross. We appreciate everyone who joined us and contributed to advancing arts education through innovative, data-informed practices!
