2025-2026 MEDIA ARTS ADVANCED COHORT

Why Join this Cohort?
The Media Arts Advanced Cohort is for educators who have completed the Introduction Cohort (or equivalent experience) and are ready to push their creative, technical, and pedagogical boundaries. This is a year-long professional learning community where participants operate as artists, critics, and curriculum designers—expanding their media fluency while developing the intellectual rigor to mentor students in creating media that matters.
Participants will dive into advanced storytelling structures, nuanced image-making, cinematic editing principles, and the integration of animation, mixed media, and generative AI as intentional creative tools. The work builds on foundational skills but moves toward more sophisticated curricular design anchored in conceptual transfer, enduring understandings, and authentic student engagement.
This is a space to experiment, problem-solve, and engage in meaningful dialogue with colleagues who are equally committed to evolving their media arts practice.
Cohort Members Can Expect:
- Hands-on media experiences across 2D, 3D, digital, and mixed media
- Advanced production techniques in video, photography, animation, and multimedia
- Exploration of cinematic, design, and visual culture principles
- Ethical and identity-centered approaches to media creation
- Refined critique protocols and responsive feedback structures
- Development of advanced, concept-based curriculum aligned to the Minnesota K-12 Academic Standards in Media Arts
- A professional network for sharing, revising, and field-testing lessons and units
- Resources and exemplars to take directly into your classroom practice
- Personalized feedback and coaching as you implement new strategies and approaches
This Cohort is Ideal for:
- Educators who have completed the Media Arts Level 1 Cohort
- Experienced media arts teachers seeking to expand creative and technical fluency
- Visual arts educators ready to integrate advanced media concepts into their teaching
Expectations for Joining the Cohort:
- Teaching or seeking to teach media arts in an integrated or standalone course offering this year
- Ability and commitment to attend all three in-person sessions at Perpich Center for Arts Education in Golden Valley
- Ability to collaborate and engage in hands-on media arts experiences
Cohort Meeting Dates (three all day workshops):
The Media Arts Advanced Cohort will meet in person at Perpich Center for Arts Education three times throughout the 2025-2026 academic year. These are full-day sessions (9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.) with a break for lunch. Cohort members are required to attend all three workshop days.

- The Media Arts Advanced Cohort will meet in person at Perpich Center for Arts Education: 6125 Olson Memorial Highway, Golden Valley, MN 55422
- Workshops are full-day sessions (9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.) with a break for lunch
- Lunch is provided for each workshop
- There is no cost to participate in this cohort, and no cost for the online media offerings
- A clock hours form will be provided after each workshop day
