NAVIGATING THE SCRIPT SELECTION PROCESS WITH K-12 SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES: A FACILITATED CONVERSATION FOR THEATER EDUCATORS AND DIRECTORS
July 10, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Free
As Theater Educators and Directors working within K-12 schools, you know that the script selection process for your productions is never easy! In addition to the thought, research, and other kinds of labor involved in the process, you may often find yourself needing to explain or justify your choices to students, families, colleagues, administrators, school boards, and community members. More than ever, especially during these culturally polarized times, these processes can be extremely challenging. Differing ideas about what constitutes “good theater” compete with one another and can even cause schools to have to cancel productions. All of this adds layers of work, stress, and concern to your already full plates!
This session does not propose a simple or singular idea about how to proceed in these challenging times. Rather, it will be structured as a facilitated conversation amongst theater educators and directors. Join us to share experiences and resources, and to brainstorm strategies for the best ways forward – for our students and our art form.
This conversation will be facilitated by Dr. Stephanie Lein Walseth and is hosted by the Perpich Center for Arts Education Professional Development and Resource Programs team. It is FREE for participants and clock hours will be offered.
Space is limited to 30 participants, so please register to reserve your spot. Registration ends July 6th.
