Perpich Arts High School Theater Ensemble presents “RUNAWAYS”
“Runaways,” a collage of songs, monologues, and scenes about children who have left home — their problems, fantasies, and methods of survival — is Elizabeth Swados’ total creation. “Runaways” is one person’s vision. It was her original idea and she had been working on it compulsively for years. For months in 1978-79, Swados interviewed and observed runaways; on the basis of this research, she wrote the words and music for the play. It started as a journey at the Public Theater in New York and transferred to Broadway in 1979 where it received numerous Tony Award nominations.
“When creating meaning for the play ‘Runaways’, it’s important to not just go into the inner city. Don’t look to just talk with the child whose parents abused them and don’t expect that ‘Runaways’ are only kids. Look everywhere, in the eyes of everyone.

Tickets are $10 and must be purchased ahead of time. Perpich students & staff receive ONE free ticket but it must be reserved ahead of time. *Students & Staff: please only reserve a ticket for your own use. Please complete the reservation form to purchase tickets to a performance. Tickets are not yours until payment is received by Perpich Center for Arts Education. NO PAYMENT will be accepted at the door. Credit card payments must be secured before the end of the school day, 3:30 p.m., on the day of your performance. Saturday tickets must be secured by Friday at 3:30 p.m.
After submitting the form, please call the Perpich Reservation Line at 763-279-4207 between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to purchase the tickets.
