Fox Lopez (Visual Arts 2022) Receives National Scholastic Art Award
March 30, 2022
Congratulations to Fox Lopez (Visual Arts 2022) for receiving a 2022 National Scholastic Art & Writing Competition Silver Medal! Fox received a National Silver Medal for his print, “Strike a Pose.”
“I was trying something new,” said Lopez. “I have never made a print before but I had a clear vision and executed it to the best of my abilities! So just keep creating and you’ll make something you love.”
Cameron Browne, Visual Arts Instructor, said, “Fox has really grown into his own as an artist and storyteller and I’m pleased to see him earn a National Silver Medal! Fox has always been building an artistic practice that uses multiple materials and it is great to see him recognized with his layered piece, “Strike a Pose”. Congratulations!”
Lopez is part of nearly 2,000 teens across the country that have been recognized with a National Medal in the 2022 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards – the most prestigious honor an American teen can receive for their creative work. Fox is from Edina, Minnesota and previously attended Minnesota Connections Academy.
This is the 99th year of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, and for nearly a century they’ve celebrated creativity and encouraged self-expression among our nation’s teens. The Awards were founded with the goal of providing a platform to honor creative teens with awards and recognition of their achievement with the same enthusiasm that student athletes are recognized.
More than 100,000 teens from across the country and Canada entered more than 260,000 works of art and writing to the 2022 Scholastic Awards. Scholastic is proud to celebrate the creativity, ingenuity, and talent of our nation’s youth.
