Work by Media Arts students was selected for the 2024 Nextwave Youth Media Showcase. Short films by Willow Bullen (Media Arts 2024) and Poppy Jones (Media Arts 2025) were shown on April 14, 2024. The showcase was part of the 43rd Annual Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival.

Perpich student short films:

Darkroom by Willow Bullen – Life slows down as a young artist finds peace through her passion for darkroom photography

Reconcile by Poppy Jones – Two friends in an argument find their way back to each other.

Khalid Ali, Media Arts Instructor, said, “One of the best aspects of filmmaking is sharing your work with others. It was wonderful to see the variety of work being created by young local filmmakers. It was also great to see the large audience that came out in support.”

The short films by Bullen and Jones were part of a select group of thirteen films selected for the showcase. Presented in partnership with the Twin Cities Youth Media Network, this shorts program represents young artists involved with In Progress, MIGIZI, Perpich Center for Arts Education, SPEAK MPLS, and Studio Thirteen at FilmNorth. The screening was followed by a reception with opportunities for students to meet peers and mentors interested in film and to learn more about local media arts resources.

The Twin Cities Youth Media Network is a community of youth-serving organizations and mentors fostering impactful creative development opportunities for youth to amplify narratives through media. The 43rd Annual Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival returns April 11-25 to The Main Cinema and other venues around the Twin Cities.
