Rebecca Bullen Named Perpich Arts High School Principal
June 7, 2023
Perpich Center leadership is pleased to announce that the new principal for Perpich Arts High School will be Rebecca Bullen. Rebecca’s start date is Wednesday, June 21, 2023. She most recently served as Assistant Principal for Perpich Arts High School and Studio Arts Chair since 2019. Bullen has worked with Perpich Center for Arts Education since 2010.
“It is hard to believe I have been with Perpich for thirteen years! What an amazing place to connect, to share my own creativity as an artist and educator, and to grow as a leader,” said Bullen. “My time here supporting our amazing young artists and community is a gift. For some, I have served as their former media arts teacher, arts chair, or Assistant Principal.
“As I shift to my role as principal, I bring my knowledge of this educational community as well as my pre-Perpich experiences, creativity, and passion for arts education. I lead with compassion and inquiry and continue to learn and connect every day. This place is special and I feel fortunate to be a part of this school and to support the staff, students, and families of such a wonderful community. I am excited for what this year will bring, together!”
Dr. Charles Rick, Perpich Executive Director, said, “I have worked with Rebecca the past four years and have seen her progression in leadership skills necessary for the Arts High School Principal position. The Arts High School is in good hands with Rebecca leading the way.”
Perpich Board Chair, Pasha Khosravi, said, “With Rebecca’s previous experience at Perpich as the assistant principal and chair of the studio arts department, I know she will excel as principal. The Board looks forward to supporting her in her new role.”
In addition to Assistant Principal and Studio Arts Chair, Bullen’s positions at Perpich have included media arts teacher, arts education specialist, and during the 2013-14 school year, she worked with Crosswinds Arts and Science School to develop its visual and media arts program. Previous to her roles with Perpich, she served as the associate director, youth program co-director, producer, and instructor of the non-profit TVbyGIRLS. She wrote media arts curriculum and taught and designed courses for a diverse community of youth throughout MN. As a media artist, in addition to artist residencies in MN K-12 schools, she worked for 7 years at MN Public Television (TPT) as a producer.
An active artist and educator, Rebecca has presented at local and national conferences including Arts Educators of Minnesota, Arts Schools Network, TIES, the Religious Educators Association, and the National Arts Educators Conference. In 2012 she received the Robert Rauschenberg Power of Art Award. Bullen is a member of the inaugural 2021-2022 Class of Minnesota ASCD (Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) Emerging Leaders. She was awarded the Arts & Cultural Education Leadership Certificate by Arts Schools Network and Creative Generation during the Arts Schools Network Annual Conference in October, 2022.
Rebecca has an Associate Degree from Russell Sage College, NY; a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design; a K-12 Visual Arts Licensure from Concordia University, St. Paul; a Master of Leadership in Education; and PK-12 Administrative Certification from the University of Minnesota.
Congratulations, Rebecca!
