CAPP CO-CHAIR FALL CONFERENCE 2025

We are very excited to welcome you to the start of the 20th Comprehensive Arts Planning Program cohort! In preparation for the first year of programming, we will meet for the CAPP Kickoff Conference on Wednesday, August 13th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Our Kick-off Conference will happen in person at Perpich Center for Arts Education. We are located off of Hwy. 55 in Golden Valley. This conference will be our first time to meet each other, delve into our beginning planning, network with other CAPP cohort sites, create synergy amongst your CAPP team, and kick-off our two year program!
*All co-chairs are required to attend this conference. CAPP district administrators are encouraged to attend this conference as well.

9:00 a.m.    Welcome, Introductions, and Overview

9:40 a.m.    Why a Strategic Plan Matters: The Purpose of a Comprehensive Plan for Arts Education Programming
This session delves into the fundamental “why” behind developing and implementing a comprehensive arts education plan, both from a personal conviction and community imperative. While the passion for arts education is deeply felt, effectively advocating for and sustaining robust programs requires a well-articulated, actionable framework. This session will equip co-chairs and district administration with the rationale and initial tools to embark on such a crucial planning process.

10:40 a.m.    Launching and Leading Your Local CAPP Committee
This session is designed for co-chairs and district administrators committed to establishing and leading an effective arts education committee within their school district and community. It addresses the critical steps involved in launching and leading a successful committee while drawing on recent experiences and diverse configurations of past CAPP cohorts. Participants will analyze various committee structures and dissect roles and responsibilities of their committee. Furthermore, this session will explore methods for identifying key allies within school districts and cultivating a diverse, effective team to advocate for robust arts education.

11:30 a.m.    Insights & Lessons Learned from past CAPP cohorts
Learn from past participants of the Comprehensive Arts Planning Program as they reflect on leading their committees, creating a strategic plan, working with various stakeholders in their district, and implementing programs and projects large and small.

12:10 p.m.    LUNCH

12:40 p.m.    MN K-12 Academic Standards in the Arts
This presentation dives into the 2018 K-12 Minnesota Academic Standards in the Arts. Topics include why or how the standards and benchmarks look the way they do; understanding Foundations and the Create, Perform, Respond, and Connect processes; recognizing specific language used in the benchmarks; and a description of the standards and benchmarks formatted in three ways. This workshop will be tailored to the group and their questions regarding standards implementation.

1:40 p.m.    Beginning Your Arts Program Analysis – Current Reality and Needs Assessment
This session is the first crucial step in strategically strengthening an arts education program: understanding the current reality of the district’s arts education programming. Before charting future goals, it is essential to rigorously assess what currently exists and what is truly needed. Participants will learn practical approaches and tools for conducting comprehensive needs assessment for their district’s arts education offerings.

2:40 p.m.    Logistics for Next Planning Meetings and Workshops in Local Districts

3:00 p.m.    Wrap-Up

Clock hours and BOSA hours will be available for this conference.

Lunch will be catered. Please note any special dietary needs in the registration form.

Hotel rooms are available on the night of Tuesday, August 12th for those who live more than 2 hours away from Perpich Center. (Co-chairs and one district administrator of each district are eligible for these hotel rooms.) ***Hotel room requests must be received by August 1 before 3:00 p.m. We cannot guarantee hotel availability after this time***

Mileage reimbursement is available for Alexandria, Brainerd, Little Falls, and Kasson-Mantorville co-chairs and district administration. Information on how to collect reimbursement for mileage will be explained at the workshop.
