DESCRIPTION:
This day is a unique opportunity to inform your teaching practice through peer observation and includes an introduction to the new Minnesota Academic Standards in the Visual Arts. To accomplish this,
- We will observe Regional Arts Teacher-Leader Molly Wiste teach her Visual Arts classes. Teachers will get to see an 8th grade 2D art class and a 7th grade intro to art class. In the 8th grade class you will see Molly introduce the 9 (a way to categorize art developed by Ian Sands). These categories help students to make choices about the art they want to make in a Choice Based Classroom. Students will also be using a planning document to plan their first themed project. In the 7th grade class students will be learning about the critical response protocol and decoding a work of art. After the critical response students will go to studio time to work on their projects in a choice based studio.
- Following the observation, Jeremy Holien will facilitate a discussion of our observations and then introduce you to opportunities to connect our observations into practical implementation ideas focused on the Minnesota Academic Standards in the Visual Arts.
You will take away new ideas and strategies for your classroom, plus have a better understanding of how the new Visual Arts standards relate to the classes you teach.
DETAILS:
The day is facilitated by Jeremy Holien, Visual Arts and Media Arts Education Specialist in Professional Development & Resource Programs at Perpich Center for Arts Education. There is no cost to participate. A certificate for 6 clock hours will be distributed at the end of the day.
Note: The maximum number of participants is 10. Registration will be closed when we reach that number.
